In the season finale of Philippines’ Next Top Model, after an exciting series of Hong Kong modeling jaunts and challenges and an extended elimination, the two remaining finalists were back in Manila for a deciding showdown that was aired last June 12 on RPN-9.
In the early phase of the concluding stretch of the contest, Rina Lorilla and Grendel Alvarado were called straightaway for their final photo shoot, which was an endorsement pictorial for L’Oreal. Following their photo-shoot, the girls were given another challenge, a TV ad for L’Oreal’s True Match Foundation. In that challenge they were instructed to act out the role that had been played by acclaimed international artist, Beyoncé Knowles as they recreated her TV commercial that she made for the same beauty product.
After their pictorials and TV ad shooting, Rina and Grendel were brought to Zara’s pre-fashion show conference and technical rehearsal at Rockwell. There they prepared for their first professional fashion show challenge organized by SAGA Events. On the fashion show, along with foreign professional models endorsing a collection of Zara’s summer outfits, Rina and Grendel showed off their own modeling style and displayed a remarkable performance as they confidently walked down the ramp with their best runway attitude.
The following day, after the series of tasks and challenges, host and panel judge Ruffa Gutierrez texted the girls to prepare for their final evaluation and elimination round. During the evaluation, Grendel was given an outstanding remark for her impressive fashion show accomplishment, and an average rating on her photo-shoot and TV ad performance.
On the other hand, Rina—with her commercial advantage over Grendel—was given a two thumbs-up for her photo-shoot and TV ad execution, but unfortunately, she was criticized on her fashion show delivery for her inconsistent expression on the ramp.
After the judges Robby Carmona, Vince Uy, Pauline Juan, Xander Angeles and Ruffa Gutierrez gave their opinions and assessments on their deliberation, Ruffa called Rina and Grendel to announce the winner. And as the two remaining finalists apprehensively and nervously stood before the judges, Ruffa finally proclaimed Grendel as the first Philippines’ Next Top Model Grand Winner. This 22-year-old nursing student from Bacolod bested thirteen other finalists for the first cycle of PNTM.
Aside from being crowned as the grand winner of the first reality modeling series in the country, Grendel will also receive a package of fabulous prizes that include: a modeling representation with Starz Modeling Agency in Hong Kong, half a million pesos in cash, courtesy of Mane and Tail Shampoo; an 8-page fashion editorial in Summit Media’s Preview magazine, a Php150K modeling contract with Saga Events, one-year endorsement contract from Celine group of companies, local advertorials campaign for L’Oreal Paris for one year, one-year body countouring program from Marie France and one-year complimentary treatment from Facial Care Center, and a natural golden South Sea pearl necklace from Jewelmer, plus the title "Jewelmer’s Pearl Ambassador to the World."
