"Luchi Cruz-Valdes, seasoned and multi-awarded broadcast journalist and chief of TV5 News and Information Division, is this year's recipient of the UPAA Distinguished Alumni Award in Broadcast Journalism given by the University of the Philippines Alumni Association (UPAA).
"The awarding ceremonies were held during the recent UPAA homecoming and reunion at the Bahay ng Alumni, UP Campus, Diliman, Quezon City.
"Special awards are given to individuals who have rendered excellent service in the pursuit of the goals of the university and the association," said UPAA President Gladys Tiongco in a statement following the announcement of this year's award recipients.
"Ms. Cruz-Valdes earned her bachelor's and master's degrees in Broadcast Communication from the country's premiere state university in 1981 and 1989, respectively. With a media background that spans 30 years, Ms. Cruz-Valdes is one of the most recognized and multi-awarded broadcast personalities in the country.
"The New York Film and Television Festivals silver medal for Outstanding Social and Current Affairs documentary, the KBP Ka Doroy Brodkaster of the Year award, and the Titus Brandsma Award for Excellence in Broadcast Journalism are some of the many awards and recognitions under her belt."
