Facing teenage issues is the central theme of ABS-CBN’s upcoming teen teledrama aptly titled Growing Up.
Leading the cast of Growing Up are Mara Clara stars Kathryn Bernardo, Julia Montes and boyish charmers Daniel Padilla and Diego Loyzaga.
Direk Lino Cayetano directs this teen drama that will start airing after ASAP Rocks on September 4, replacing Good Vibes.
The TV series revolves around Ella (Kathryn Bernado) and Tammy (Julia Montes), childhood friends who want to raise money for Ms. Lisa Ortega (Maricar Reyes), their volleyball coach who was diagnosed with a serious ailment.
Daniel plays Patrick, a heartthrob who is also tagged as a bad boy. Daniel is paired with the character of Kathryn while Diego is paired with Julia.
They are supported by the characters played by Neil Coleta, Yen Santos, EJ Fallurin, and Kiray.
In the presscon held recently for the show, the lead characters were asked what experiences they regret not having because they started working at a young age.
For her part, Kathryn said, "Hindi ako ang typical na makakalabas every time.
The teen stars were also interviewed by The Buzz hosts Charlene Gonzales and Toni Gonzaga last Sunday, August 28.
Both Daniel and Diego come from showbiz clans. Daniel is the nephew of Robin Padilla since he is the son of Karla Estrada and Rommel Padilla, brother of Robin.
Diego, on the other hand, is the son of former singer Teresa Loyzaga and actor Cesar Montano.
Do they feel any pressure now that they are in showbiz?
Daniel agreed with Diego’s statement. "Mommy ko singer at actress po. Dad ko po, actor rin po. Yung expectation po sa amin mataas."
When Daniel was asked how many relationships he had in the past, the 15-year-old actor revealed, "Tatlong lang po...Sa totoo lang po, si Mama po muna ang magsasabi. Sabi niya, huwag muna magseryoso bata pa naman ako..."
He added that he is serious with his relationships.
Diego Loyzaga, on the other hand, clarified his being tagged as "pasaway" or naughty in school.
"Hindi po totoo ’yan," was his emphatic but humorous denial. He added, "After school po ’yon. Late na ako umuuwi."
The next question was then directed to Julia and Kathryn: Was there a time that you didn’t feel beautiful?
Kathryn admitted, "Opo. Yes. Kahit wala pa yung Mara Clara...Yung self-esteem ko, di ako ganoon ka-confident before..."
When did she realize that she was beautiful?
The young actress told the hosts, "Nadagdagan ang confidence level."
Julia, on the other hand, said, "Di po maiwasan na iko-compare... kinakabahan ako...mas maganda siya sa akin. Parang ganoon. Wala akong confidence sa sarili ko po."
After the ladies, Diego and Daniel were asked if they also felt insecure about their appearances.
Diego commented, "Oo naman po. Kahit lalaki, meron rin po [insecurities]...
Daniel answered, "Opo.
The Growing Up lead stars then encouraged viewers to support their new show. Kathryn said, "Maraming makaka-relate na mga teenagers," while Julia pointed out "Yung mga pinagdadaanan namin, di maintindihan ng iba. Siguro dito, ma-e-express naming teenagers."
