PRESS STATEMENT FROM GMA-7:
"GMA Network, Inc. (GMA) posted a back-to-back victory recently by winning the Volunteers Against Crime and Corruption’s (VACC) Outstanding Television Station for 2011 and the Quezon City Academy (QCA) and Komisyon sa Wikang Filipino’s (KWF) Gawad Sagisag Quezon in separate ceremonies held last week.
"VACC lauded GMA’s "valuable service to the community through consistent quality television programming that tackles timely issues and concerns and its professional and balanced treatment of news and documentaries particularly those that underscore the cause of victims and the criminal justice system."
"The commendation pushes GMA to continue producing balanced, fair, impartial news stories that would hopefully extend the Filipinos’ level of social awareness," said GMA Chairman and CEO Atty. Felipe L. Gozon.
"GMA was clearly dominant in the roster of major VACC awards, highlighted by the major citations won by GMA News TV (GNTV), the first and only news and public affairs channel on Philippine VHF free TV, and the network’s flagship radio station DZBB.
"GNTV’s State of the Nation with Jessica Soho, anchored by Peabody awardee and the country’s most awarded broadcast journalist Jessica Soho, was cited as the Outstanding Television Program; while DZBB 594 khz, led by one of the country’s most credible and multi-awarded broadcast journalists, Mike Enriquez, won as Outstanding Radio Station.
"Department of Justice (DOJ) Secretary Leila de Lima, who addressed the awarding ceremonies on the occasion of VACC’s 13th Founding Anniversary last August 26 at the DOJ office in Malate, Manila, said the awardees "speak of a deep and strong commitment, of the willpower to stay on course despite disappointments and obstacles and, of course, [they] speak of credibility."
"Soho and Enriquez--each making a dent on the Philippine justice system as highly respected media personalities--were respectively cited as Outstanding Television Host and Outstanding Radio Host.
’Likewise, GMA’s John Paul Soriano won as Outstanding Television Reporter, while DZBB’s Carlo Mateo won as Outstanding Radio Reporter.
"The QCA and KWF, in turn, awarded GMA--the only television station in the roster of 12 awardees--the Gawad Sagisag Quezon for the excellent use of Filipino language in running mainstream Channel 7 and international channels GMA Pinoy TV (GPTV) and GMA Life TV (GLTV) at the awarding ceremonies held on August 24 at the Manila Hotel.
"GMA’s change of tagline from "Where You Belong" to "Kapuso ng Bawat Pilipino" signals the Network’s commitment to infuse the Filipino language in understanding the nation’s dreams, pains, and aspirations."
