Considering the current political and social climate, tukhang is a word that may cause apprehension.
Meaning "to knock and ask," it's also the title of a four-part mini-series from Cignal Entertainment.
Tukhang shows how relationships and secrets keep one alive in a society plagued by illegal drugs.
It also follows characters from different walks of life. From a messenger boy from the slums (in photo below) to a senator with a secret, both rich and poor are involved in the drug trade.
Are they the bad guys? In the world of Tukhang, not everything is black and white.
The protagonists are a police officer and a journalist who come in conflict with an amiable hitman and a wily escort, to name a few.
Tukhang also introduces characters who do bad things for not entirely bad reasons.
Yul Servo (Best Actor, Brussels International Film Festival) plays Fernan "Kuya" Castro, a killer for hire but also a loving family man.
On the other side of the law, there's C/Insp. Paolo Jacinto (James Blanco).
There's also reporter Ellen Rovira (Karel Marquez, in photo below), who aims to uncover the truth about a senator's suicide.
Other acclaimed actors joining the cast of Tukhang are Mon Confiado (recipient of several FAMAS nominations), Janna Victoria, Butch Francisco, Archi Adamos, Jerould Aceron, Zandra Summer, and Jake Macapagal (recipient of British Independent Film Award for Most Promising Newcomer).
The gritty criminal drama created by Bong Sta. Maria is directed by award-winning filmmakers Lawrence Fajardo (Vesoul Asian Film Festival, Sinag Maynila Film Festival, Gawad Urian, Cinemalaya) and Derick Cabrido (New York TV Festival, New York International Independent Film and Video Festival).
Don't miss the two-episode premiere of Tukhang tomorrow July 22, 10:30 p.m., exclusively on Colours, SARI SARI Channel, and Bloomberg TV Philippines, all on Cignal TV.
Cignal Entertainment aims to inspire and empower Filipino viewers by creating high-quality original content.
