Young star Jennylyn Mercado said she was “not bothered” by the accusations of fellow GMA-7 contract artist Ryza Cenon that appeared in the December issue of the showbiz news magazine Hi!.
In an interview with the GMA-7 show biz talk show S-Files on November 19, Jennylyn said: “I want to give her [Ryza] the benefit of the doubt. We haven’t seen each other for a long time.”
She also added, “Tungkol naman sa issue, I’m not bothered at all. I’m just curious kung bakit niya sinabi yon. Kasi if the statement is true, unfair naman sa akin. As far as I’m concerned, we’re not close naman. But we’re in speaking terms. Best if I ask her personally when I get the chance to see her. I can’t please everyone.”
In the her interview with Hi!, Ryza accused Jennylyn of sending her profane text messages, verbal threats, and even physical harm in an incident that happened during one of their rehearsals for an undisclosed GMA-7 show. Ryza alleged that Jennylyn bumped her on purpose, causing her to stumble.
“Nagkasabay kami ng rehearsal, magkasama kami sa dance. Natapos na yung rehearsal ko, nauna akong umalis sa kanya. After nun, biglang kasunod ko na siya sa likod. Magkatabi kami ng P.A. [personal assistant] ko na naglalakad. Tapos dun siya dumaan sa gitna. Talagang hindi siya nag-excuse. Hindi siya nag-sorry. Natalisod ako,” Ryza narrated in the Hi! interview.
“Tine-text niya ako, minumura niya ako. Sabi niya, ‘baguhan ka lang. Kaya kitang pabagsakin,” Ryza added.
According to Ryza, all these incidents happened last year. Ryza said the incidents stemmed from accusations that she caused the break-up of Jennylyn and her real-life boyfriend at that time, Mark Herras.
Jennylyn and Mark were the first Ultimate Survivors, or grand champions, of GMA-7’s reality-based talent search, Starstruck in 2003. Ryza and fellow GMA-7 contract artist Mike Tan were the Starstruck Ultimate Survivors of the succeeding year.
Rumors spread last year that Ryza was caught kissing Mark on an airplane flight to a foreign show. She denied this in the same Hi! interview, saying “Ni hindi kami magkatabi ni Mark! Paano mo magagawa yun na ang daming tao? Marami ring artista.”
Ryza recounted that she and Mark had been close due to their pairing as siblings in the 2005 film, Lovestruck. But she said she was not interested in Mark because of his “playboy” image.
Meanwhile, in an S-Files interview last November 19, Ryza apologized to GMA Artist Center, which according to her, was dismayed over her actions. Ryza had accused GMA Artist Center of favoritism in the same Hi! magazine interview, when she revealed that the talent management arm of GMA-7 had been siding with network artists “na mas maraming projects,” referring to Jennylyn.
Unknown to Ryza at the time of the interview, GMA Artist Center had reprimanded Jennylyn after its executives received forwarded copies of the profane text messages the Starstruck 2 ultimate survivor was claiming.
“Nag-sorry po ako sa Artist Center kasi sila po talaga yung na-disappoint sa mga sinabi ko. Kaya ako [nagsalita] para matapos na, ayoko nang lumaki pa. Parte yun e. May mga comments talaga na dapat tanggapin.”
Ryza said in the S-Files interview she had moved on since those incidents last year.
“Dati pa yun. Bago pa ako nun. Yun yung naramdaman ko. Ikinuwento ko lang. Siguro ganun lang po yung ugali niya [Jennylyn]. Hindi ko rin po kasi ma-ride minsan.”
