Sharon, Kiko share secret to long-lasting marriage

What’s the formula for a long lasting relationship? Showbiz megastarSharon Cuneta and Senator Francis Pangilinan share their secret totheir over ten years of marriage.

In a rare television interview together, Sharon and Kiko provide aglimpse of how their bond grows everyday since their wedding on April28, 1996.

Brigade Siete yung first natin na magkasama tayo afterthe wedding e,” says Sharon, referring to the defunct GMA-7 newsmagazine program wherein they gave their first television interview asa married couple.

More than ten years after, the couple grants another exclusiveinterview to a GMA News and Public Affairs show—the “Chika Minute”showbiz news segment of GMA-7’s 24 Oras newscast last November 24.

The couple says in the interview that their secret lies in the appreciation and respect for one another.

For Sharon, she appreciates Kiko’s seriousness and being a hands-onfather to their children—Simone Francesca Emmanuelle (“Frankie”) andMariel Daniella Sophia (“Miel”)—and Sharon's child with former actor Gabby Concepcion, KC Concepcion.

“I like his pagka-serious pagdating sa mga [family] matters. Seryososiya. What you don’t see every single day e yung minsan super sungit,”Sharon says.

On the other hand, Kiko attributes it to respect. “Importante yung may respeto sa isa’t isa. Yun ang first and foremost.”

When asked about their plans for the Christmas season, Kiko said:“Usually, Christmas Eve sa kanila. Tapos hanggang Noche Buena sa Cunetaside. Tapos Christmas lunch naman sa Pangilinan side.”

While they spend quality time with each other, both Sharon and Kikopursue separate interests. As Kiko keeps himself busy with matters ofthe State, Sharon still has an active showbiz career, including aweekly talk show and upcoming film projects. The Megastar also has herhands full with her distance education at the University of thePhilippines Open University.

Because of academic pressure as a result of her online education,Sharon said it was the first time in twenty years that she forgotChristmas was nearing. “Second sem just started and first time overtwenty years, nalimot ko Pasko.”
