Naked except for a placard placed strategically on his private parts that says: “Naked Truth: Animals Don’t Belong in Zoos,” Diether Ocampo makes a bold statement for an animal rights organization.
Recently named as Best Actor during this year’s Star Awards, Diether bares it all for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) last November 30 at a photographer’s studio in Makati City.
In an interview with PEP right before the pictorial, PETA campaigns manager Rochelle Regodon reveals that the young actor has long been an active supporter of their group. “Diether has long been an advocate of helping animals…It was him who approached us, wanting to do something for [PETA] and he himself suggested that he help out with our Manila Zoo campaign.”
This ad, which features a butt-naked Diether posing nude inside a zebra-striped box, is scheduled to be released early next year. It campaigns against the captivity of animals in zoos. In a statement, the young actor says, “Even the biggest zoos cannot provide the space, exercise, privacy, mental stimulation, and other things needed by the animals they imprison.”
When asked if Diether received a talent fee, PETA’s campaigns manager responded: “No, no, no. None of our celebrities get money. They all do it for the cause coz they believe in it. As with [models] Borgy [Manotoc] and Ornussa [Cadness], they did it voluntarily because they believe in the cause.”
Last September, the two models—and real-life sweethearts—agreed to be covered in tiger body paint for PETA’s previous ad advocating the tagline: “Even the wildest animals don’t belong in zoos.”
A great animal lover, Diether takes care of his six dogs and five cats. He regularly reads Animal Times, the publication of PETA.
