She has been dressed up by some of the country's biggest names in haute couture—Louie Mamengo, Inno Sotto, Rajo Laurel, Randy Ortiz—and, more recently, by Pepsi Herrera and Edwin Tan. But Regine's own personal style adds immensely to her glorious way with gowns.
In her entire musical career, Regine has accumulated over a hundred gowns that have helped define her as a diva. In 2005, she started selling 40 of those stunning outfits. The special sale was launched through an auction on October 23, on the Mel & Joey talk show. All proceeds were to go directly to the GMA-7 Kapuso Foundation's "Give-a-Gift, Alay sa Batang Pinoy Christmas Project."
What made her do it?
"Galing din ako sa hirap," Regine explains. "Alam ko kung paano ‘yon. So, in my own liitle way, I try to help. I would love to help some more, kaya lang, ito pa lang ‘yong nakakayanan ko sa ngayon."
Regine says she watches GMA-7's news program 24 Oras, and its "Serbisyong Totoo" segment she always sees reports about Kapuso Foundation projects: "Like ‘yong mga schools na bibibigyan nila ng mga books. Siguro, doon sa mga nanonood, books lang naman ‘yan, pero doon po sa mga pinagbibigyan, that's a big thing."
And last Christmas, December 2005, Regine sold all her expensive gowns for a cause. Now that's what we call helping in a fashionable way.
