Independent filmmakers now have a venue to showcase their obra maestras. Filipinos can also look forward to a film festival that will showcase the best independent films made in the country since 2000.

Chits Jimenez, vice-president of the Independent Filmmakers Cooperative (IFC), explains, "IndieSINE is the first digital cinema that will be showing exclusively independent films. Next year we are going to have the launching of Indie Sine on January 16."

IndieSINE—otherwise known as Cinema 8 of Robinsons Galleria Movieworld—has actually been operating since October. In fact, indie movies such as Guimaras: Short Films from the Oil Spill and entries of the Cinema One Originals film festival have been shown at the venue. However, the formal launch is scheduled for January 16 next year.

She adds that on January 17 to January 22, they will have the Bagong Agos Film Festival. The project is impressive: "We will feature the best of digital films from year 2000 onwards. We're talking about 36 films."
