The TV and radio stations will go off-air. The movie houses, malls, bars and restaurants, and other gimmick hubs will be closed. And the celebrities will have nothing on their schedules and will take some time to rest and relax.
Most of them will be hitting the beach to sunbathe and swim, chill out, and have fun under the sun! Where are they headed? PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) gives you the top destinations of the stars for Holy Week.
BORACAY, AKLAN. Its claim to fame is its powdery white sand. Aside from the beach, Boracay also offers a lively night life. Swim and sunbathe during the day, party from dusk 'till dawn. If you have plans of going to Bora, include star-sighting in your list of activities because a lot of celebrities will definitely be there!
Janno Gibbs: "The whole family will be in Boracay. It's my daughter Alyssa's 18th birthday and she wants to celebrate it on the beach. We'll give her a simple debut party on the beach."
It's also a time for me to rest kasi nga everyone knows na may sakit ako. Baka gumaling ako nang konti kapag nakapagpahinga ako."
Say Alonzo: "I'll go to Boracay this summer just to unwind and have fun."
Keempee de Leon: "Parati naman akong nasa Boracay during Holy Week.
Carmi Martin: "I'll just stay in Manila for the Holy Week. And if I have time, I'll go to Boracay."
Boy Abunda, Jeremy Marquez, Cristine Reyes also have plans of going to Bora. And if Maui Taylor, Gwen Garci, and Michelle Madrigal will stick to the same travel plans they had last year—you'll likely spot them walking along the shore!
Mactan Island, Cebu. The place has almost everything—a beach, a garden, a mini-zoo, and of course, the amenities and luxury of a hotel. And since it's a coral island, it's one of the best spots for scuba diving. And who would want to try Cebu?
Abby Cruz: "I love the beach so much. Baka pumunta ako sa Cebu with my friends. Pinatitigil nga nila ako sa pagpapa-tan because of the show I'm in. But I will make this my last tan for the year."
Margarette Wilson: "Probably here in Manila, but we're flying to Cebu for work. It's gonna be in Shangri-La Mactan, so at the same time I work and I get to relax."
Laguna and Batangas. People who want to soak in water every summer frequent these two provinces. Laguna is known for its resorts, and of course, Pagsanjan Falls. Batangas, on the other hand, has it stretch of beaches plus Taal Lake and Taal Volcano. And the good thing about Laguna and Batangas is they're both just a few hours drive from Manila. Look who's going on a roadtrip.
Uuwi talaga sila sa Pilipinas for the reunion kaya we rented a big private pool house sa Laguna at doon kami for the entire week.
ABS-CBN stars like Denise Laurel, Carla Humpries, and Gabriel Valenciano will also spend their Holy Week with the Batangueños.
Out of the country. Other celebrities choose to go abroad to stay away from the scorching heat of the sun.
Ruffa Gutierrez-Bektas: "I'm meeting up with Yilmaz [Bektas, her husband] in the States."
Rhian Ramos: "I might go to Thailand to visit my Dad. My Dad kasi works there and he only gets to see us every six months. It's either he flies over here or we go there.
First time kong mag-Holy Week outside of the country.
Paolo Contis: "Mag-e-Asian Cruise ako with family and friends. Mga one week cruise din ‘yon, tamang-tamang pagpapahinga iyon for me."
Isabel Oli is supposed to cruise with her former boyfriend Paolo, but Isabel's father is scheduled to have a medical operation here in Manila. Her family will go to Singapore this coming May.
Cheska Garcia: "This summer I will be going around the Philippines for US Girls. We're going also to Thailand with It's a Guy Thing. For the Holy Week for Studio 23, so basically, lahat ng mga travels ko, it's all for work."
Asia Agcaoili: "I'll be spending my Holy Week in Hong Kong. I'd like to take a break from it all. Go shopping, enjoy my friends' company, and visit some other friends that work there."
Stay at Home. Some celebrities believe that there's no place like home so they will be observing Holy Week the traditional way.
Ryza Cenon: "Wala akong plano talaga.
Like Ryza and Jackie, fellow StarStruck stars Yasmien Kurdi, LJ Reyes, and Mike Tan will also be staying at home with their respective families.
Joey Marquez: "Stay at home, there's no one to be with, e."
Dennis Trillo will also be at home this Holy Week, but on Black Saturday he will go to Hong Kong for "sideline" work.
Ara Mina says she has no plans to go out of town this week.
Then, tulog. Kakatapos lang ng exams, so pahinga naman."
Uma Khouny: "Nakagawian ko nang umuwi sa Israel, pero this Holy Week this year, I'm not going home because wala ng ticket pauwi dito on time. So I'll probably just stay home, watch DVD."
No Plans Yet. There are also some celebrities who still have no definite plans.
Richard Gutierrez: "I'm still undecided where to go for the Holy Week. Masyado kasing mabilis ang vacation. I want to go out of the country pero nagsimula na kami ng tapings for Lupin at ipapalabas na kami sa April 9. Bahala na kung saan ako mapunta."
Ehra Madrigal: "I still have no plans.
Geoff Eigenmann: "So far, no plan. Just stay home with the family. Siguro if given the chance, sa Bahamas siguro. Somewhere away from the Philippines para makalimutan ang mga problema dito, to get away from the stress now."
Joseph Bitangcol: "Pareho kami ni Sandy [Sandara, his girlfriend].
Siyempre, gusto mo mag-beach.
Baka paplanuhin namin papuntang Bicol kasi last year nagpunta rin kami."
Wherever they'll be and whatever they'll do, PEP hopes that the short break will be a blast for all.
