Richard Gomez and Cesar Montano: victims of the media war?

Apr 24, 2007
"Kung siya ang nasa kalagayan ko, hindi ko sasabihin sa kaniyang ayusin niya muna ang tax evasion case niya before he runs for public office," says Richard Gomez (left) about Cesar Montano's alleged statement against him.

A tabloid report came out yesterday, April 23, saying that TEAM Unity senatorial candidate Cesar Montano questioned independent senatorial candidate and co-actor Richard Gomez's stand on the E-VAT. According to the tabloid report, Cesar said that before Richard comments on the issue of the E-VAT, he should settle his tax-evasion case first.

PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) was able to get both sides of the story as contributors Jojo Gabinete and Nitz Miralles got first-hand interviews from the camps of Cesar and Richard, respectively.

Reacting to the report, Richard told Nitz Miralles: "Sana hindi siya [Cesar] nagsalita ng ganun. Everybody is presumed innocent until proven guilty. My case is with DOJ [Department of Justice]. Kung siya ang nasa kalagayan ko, hindi ko sasabihin sa kaniyang ayusin niya muna ang tax evasion case niya before he runs for public office."

However, Richard admitted that he has not personally read the report that came out in Abante Tonite.

Although Jojo Gabinete did not interview Cesar himself, he was able to talk to the actor's brother, Rommel Montano, at Annabel's restaurant a few hours ago. According to Rommel, Cesar was surprised by the tabloid report.

"Walang sinabi na ganoon si Buboy. Nasa Mindoro siya ngayon para sa kampanya, pero babalik siya mamayang hapon. Hindi puweng sabihin ni Buboy 'yon dahil may nagsabi rin sa kaniya na hindi sila dapat mag-away ni Richard," Rommel said in his interview with Jojo.
