Ruffa Gutierrez's feisty mother, Annabelle Rama, is once again in fighting form.
Sitting as a studio guest at Showbiz Central yesterday, June 3, Annabelle first attacked entertainment columnist Dolly Anne Carvajal over the latter's allegation that the father of Ruffa's estranged husband, Yilmaz Bektas, is a member of an Istanbul drug syndicate.
In a previous interview, Dolly Anne had said that it was a reader who emailed her asking about Yilmaz's alleged ties. She also clarified that she did not instigate the talk and simply wanted Yilmaz to make a clarification and clear his name.
"'Wag ka nang makisawsaw sa issue!" Annabelle angrily told Dolly Anne.
"Ba't ba si Ruffa ang tinitira mo?" she demanded to know. "...Pag kailangan mo naman ng pera, binibigyan kita kasi alam ko kailangan mo!"
Annabelle also challenged Dolly Anne to a game of mud-throwing: "Gusto mo, maglabasan tayo ng baho ngayon dito? Gusto mo isa-isahin ko lahat ng baho mo?"
Taking a swipe at Dolly Anne—who writes a regular entertainment column for the English-language broadsheet, the Philippine Daily Inquirer—Annabelle remarked: "Magaling ka lang mag-Ingles, pero wala ka namang utak!"
Ironically, Dolly Anne's mother, the late Queen of Philippine Entertainment Talk, Inday Badiday was a godmother at Ruffa and Yilmaz's wedding. Inday was Lourdes Jimenez Carvajal in real life. She is the younger sister of Inquirer editor-in-chief Letty Jimenez Magsanoc.
YILMAZ BEKTAS. Annabelle then shifted her attention to her son-in-law, Yilmaz Bektas.
"Hindi naman na ako nagulat sa mga pinagsasabi niya dahil sanay na ako kay Yilmaz," she said.
Yilmaz recently made a statement through a phone interview stating that the divorce he filed against Ruffa Gutierrez, his wife of four years, will push through. He also accused Ruffa of being a traitor and a negligent wife and mother.
Annabelle said that Yilmaz often uses words like "traitor" every time he has a rift with Ruffa.
"Alam mo ‘yang si Yilmaz, pag nag-aaway sila ni Ruffa, lagi niyang sinasabi na sisiraan niya si Ruffa sa press, hindi ka na sisikat at babalik ka rin ulit sa akin," Annabelle countered.
But compared to her earlier mood when she was talking about Dolly Anne, Annabelle was calmer, or at least trying to be composed, when she addressed the Yilmaz issue. She even said that she felt sorry for the Turkish millionaire.
"Naiintindihan ko naman siya kasi nawala sa kanya ang asawa niya at mga anak niya. Kaya niya siguro nasabi ‘yong mga ‘yon. Emotional kasi ‘yang si Yilmaz, e," she said.
But despite the entire feud brought up by the bitter divorce, Annabelle admitted some moments of vulnerability, particularly when she thinks of Lorin and Venice.
"Lumalambot nga ang puso ko minsan kasi naaawa din ako kay Yilmaz at para sa mga bata. Pero kailangan na talaga nilang maghiwalay ni Ruffa."
She also took the blame for Ruffa's failure to fly back to Istanbul when Yilmaz had an operation. Yilmaz would later use this incident against Ruffa as a clear proof of his wife's shortcomings.
"Ako talaga ang dapat sisihin. Ready na si Ruffa umalis noon... may ticket na siya papuntang Istanbul, pero pinigilan ko talaga siya," Annabelle said.
Her reason, she said in defense of herself, was to protect Ruffa because she was uncertain about her daughter's safety.
In the end, Annabelle expressed happiness about the divorce: "Ako na ang pinakamasayang nanay ngayon sa buong mundo."
As for Yilmaz, she advised him to move on and stop tainting Ruffa's name through the press.
When told about Yilmaz's statement that he will file for divorce himself, Annabelle answered: "Mabuti nga ‘yon para wala na kaming gastos."
