When Kris Bernal celebrated her 18th birthday last May 16, her loveteam partner Mart Escudero danced with her as her 18th rose. Tradition says that the last dance of the debutante during the debut is reserved for the most special man in her life.
Last night, June 14, Kris was one of the StarStruck 4 graduates being launched by GMA-7 in a teenybopper show entitled Boys Next Door. When PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) asked Kris how she felt during her dance with Mart, she gushed, "Siyempre kilig moment kasi it's the first time we danced that way. Usually when we dance, hip-hop talaga, e. Pero first time 'yong ganun na formal."
Would she want to relive the moment? She declares: "Sana mag-18 ulit ako!"
The two became close during their StarStruck 4 days until they were named the Ultimate Loveteam of their batch.
Even though Mart is one year her junior, she notes that he is more mature than she is. Kris also tells PEP that her family approves of Mart—as her loveteam partner, that is. "My family knows him since StarStruck pa lang. And they like Mart as my partner, as my ka-loveteam."
With all the hype that they have been receiving as a loveteam, has their relationship moved on to the next level?
"Right now, we're in the getting-to-know stage," Kris narrates. "Knowing our flaws, knowing our moods. Dun pa lang, nothing more than friends pa. Siguro time will tell."
But the twinkle in her eyes says there's something more going on.
"I find him really nice. I find him a real gentleman. Sabi nga, parang alipin ko na siya, e. Like he brings my bag, he brings me food."
What do you like most about him?
"His being makulit. Ang kulit niya talaga. You would enjoy every moment with him. No dull moment kumbaga.
"Pag off cam, sweet siya. Sometimes he becomes so sweet and thoughtful. He sometimes gives me chocolates without any reason. Then I get used to it na may chocolate ako. He knows that my favorite is Toblerone, so it's always Toblerone talaga."
Ikaw lang ba binibigyan niya?
"Sana! I hope so," Kris says, laughing.
In Boys Next Door, Kris plays Coffee, the kikay niece of Ms. Malinis, played by Janice de Belen. She will get caught in a love triangle with Atom (Mart) and Migs (Aljur Abrenica). This teen-oriented show will premiere on June 24 (Saturday) after Move! The Billy Crawford's Search for Pinoy Dancers on GMA-7.
