Paul Soriano apologizes for his "no comment" remark

Sep 16, 2007
"To John, I'm sorry. I apologize for the 'no comment' issue. I understand where you're coming from and you're just being a protective older brother, and that's very respectful of you to defend your sister. I apologize for any convenience I have caused you and your family and I hope that all's well now," says director Paul Soriano to John Prats.

Camille Prats made headlines last week with the news that she is four months pregnant.

Prior to Camille's revelation, the pregnancy issue became the topic of almost every blind item especially on the question on who was the real father. In comes director Paul Soriano's name.

Direk Paul, who had a connection with Camille in the past and is now the boyfriend of Toni Gonzaga, stirred up tension with Camille's brother, John Prats, about his reaction to Camille's pregnancy with the words "no comment."

The issue had since settled down with Camille's mom, Alma Prats, saying that a young non-showbiz businessman was in fact, the father of Camille's unborn child—Anthony Linsagan.

PAUL SPEAKS UP. One week after John's interview in The Buzz, Paul finally broke his silence and gave his side on the said issue at Entertainment Live yesterday, September 15.

How did Paul's name get dragged in Camille's pregnancy issue, that he was rumored to be the father?

"We were [Camille and him] friends," Paul admitted. "We got to know each other. After that, there was really nothing serious or anything like that. We just moved on... and that was how it was."

Paul also made it clear that he wasn't the father and said his thanks to Mrs. Prats for clearing his name.

"Everyone knows the truth now, and there's no reason for me to be involved anymore, I mean this is a very sensitive time for the whole Prats family and they don't need this extra attention anymore and they should focus on the blessing that they are about to receive.

"I also agree with John when John said that why's my name in this. Why my name was involved, I'll never know. But at least Mrs. Prats made it clear that I'm not involved in this situation and I thank God for that."

Paul, who isn't exactly attuned to showbiz lingo, then proceeded with his explanation on why he said "no comment" on the issue, since those words have different meanings.

"Well, really, I don't know what to say and I didn't want to get involved in the issue and if I say something, I feel that I'm automatically involved in myself in this. So, I thought that by saying nothing, it would be okay. But apparently, ‘no comment' means a lot of things, and I guess that's how John reacted.

"To be honest, I didn't know what to say and there isn't anything I should say at all. This is a very sensitive issue and there's no need for the extra malice. We should just give them [Prats family] their peace. Since the truth is already out there, I think that's what we should listen to and stick to. "

Paul also gave a meesage to John: "To John, I'm sorry. I apologize for the 'no comment' issue. I understand where you're coming from and you're just being a protective older brother, and that's very respectful of you to defend your sister. I apologize for any convenience I have caused you and your family and I hope that all's well now."

TONI'S REACTION. Since she was out of the country when the issue boomed out, Paul's girlfriend, Toni Gonzaga, also gave her reaction about Paul's name being entangled with Camille's issue.

How exactly did Toni know about the issue?

"I've heard about it already for quite some time now," Toni confirmed. "I think since I'm not really involved in the issue, I think there's no point for me to say something or anything since it's very, very personal and it's a family thing na mahirap magbigay ng any statement or comment."

Since the issue revolved around Toni's boyfriend, what did the couple do to address the matter?

"Things like this are very hard first, but if you talk about it and you understand and trust each other, there's no way na–"

Unable to hold her curiosity, co-host Marielle Rodriguez interrupted Toni's answer in mid-sentence by asking if Toni got mad when she heard the news about Paul's involvement.

"I got shocked," Toni admitted. "I asked him [Paul] about it and he said na it's not true. So, I believe whatever he says and I trust him."
