The year 2007 was quite controversial for most of our local celebrities and Ara Mina is definitely no exception. In an interview with The Buzz last December 30, the sexy star spoke on the pesky rumors surrounding her and how she had dealt with these.
When asked if year 2007 was nice to her, Ara replied: "Ah, mabait naman. Siyempre, meron ding mga bumpers. Lubak-lubak pero meron din patag."
MOM TO THE RESCUE. Last September, gossips started to circulate about Ara's alleged relationship with boxing champ Manny Pacquiao, who is her leading man in the movie Anak ng Kumander. At first, Ara ignored the rumor thinking that it would die a natural death. However, the rumor escalated to the point that it gave birth to new ones, like Ara getting herself a home courtesy of Manny.
Ara's mom, Frances Klenk, came to her rescue by airing her sentiments on The Buzz last October 7. Ms. Klenk asked Manny to help her defend her daughter against the rumors: "Alam kong wala kang relasyon sa anak ko. Sana naman pagdating mo, ipagtanggol mo ang anak ko kasi sirang-sira siya sa tao."
Despite Ms. Klenk's public appearance, gossipmongers still feasted on the fabricated story, until November 11 when Ara Mina finally broke her silence.
"My God, anong tingin n'yo sa akin, mukhang pera?" an exasperated Ara exclaimed. "Sobra naman. Lahat ba ng kilos ko dapat ay bayad?
She jokingly added, "Excuse me! Hindi ha! Ano tingin n'yo sa akin, poor?"
On The Buzz last December 30 Boy Abunda asked Ara about Jinky Pacquiao and if they already got the chance to speak concerning this issue."Hindi pa," Ara replied.
Boy, who is known for his quick follow-up questions, asked: "Halimbawa lamang na mabibigyan ka ng pagkakataon makausap si Jinky. Ano'ng gusto mong sabihin sa kanya?"
Ara answered, "Siguro sa lahat ng mga nagt-text sa kanya na hindi maganda... Sabihin na nating mga nagsusulsol, huwag siyang maniniwala."
Boy then proceeded to ask whether Ara had any suspicions about Jinky being the one responsible behind the malicious text messages to her and her Anak ng Kumander co-star Valerie Concepcion.
SISTER TO THE RESCUE. Controversy might have realized that Ara is a multi-tasker, so it came up with another issue. This time, in the form of the Dennis Trillo-Carlene Aguilar-Cristine Reyes feud. Naturally, Ara had to enter the dispute to lend aid to her sister.
"Si Cristine, kamusta? Nagkabalikan ba sila ni Dennis?" Boy Abunda asked.
"Okay naman, just fine. Pero ayoko na kasi magtanong pagdating sa ganyan. Pero I think friends na sila," Ara said.
When the issue was at its peak, could Ara truly say that Dennis defended Christine?
"Meron ba siyang interview na nag-explain talaga?" Ara started. "Alam naman ni Dennis ‘yon, e, na beforehand pa lang, e, boto na ako sa kanya. Pero siyempre, normal lang na medyo nakakapagtampo rin dahil inaasahan namin na ipagtatanggol niya [si Cristine]. Iniisip ko rin na naiipit din siguro siya sa situation niya and ayaw din niya siguro na masaktan si Carlene. Sabi ko nga na hindi naman ikasisira mo kung maging totoo ka sa sarili mo."
NO TIME TO TEXT GOSSIP. Ara was also involved in the Rochelle Barrrameda-Nadia Montenegro issue where Ara was said to have allegedly spread the text message about Nadia scandalizing Rochelle.
"Sa sobrang dami kong ginagawa, e, parang wala na akong time para magkalat ng message," Ara said.
When asked if she ever had a problem with Nadia, Ara replied: "Hindi. Wala naman. As far as I know, wala kaming problem. Natatawa lang ako kasi hindi ko ugali ang ganoon, e, at siyempre, pamilya na ‘yon."
NOW KAPAMILYA. At the end of the interview, Boy asked the inevitable: Is Ara Mina finally a Kapamilya?
"Ako? May bagong akong show!" Ara laughed. "Ang Prinsesa ng Banyera. Mapapanood nila ako dito [ABS-CBN]."
How about Cristine?
"Siguro normal lang naman na isipin nila na package deal kaming magkapatid. Alam kong tapos na contract niya [sa GMA Artist Center], e," Ara said without really answering the question.
