Marco is not much of a clotheshorse. A self-confessed kuripot, heshies away from branded stuff. He occasionally reads GQ to know thelatest in fashion, but he's more of a sneakers-and-jeans guy. "Simple lang ako, e," he says with a laugh."I'm not that into fashion talaga, tulad ng iba. Kontento na ako sa'binibigay ng endorsements."(&l

Showbiz knocked on Marco Alcaraz's door accidentally.

The23-year-old Bench model left his native Cebu City in 2001 and came to Manila toplay for the Stags, the basketball team of San Sebastian College. What hedidn't expect was an injury that would make him change his ambition.

"It'san anterior cruciate ligament tear," Marco says of the injury. "It's one of themajor ligaments holding the knee. During basketball practice sa Baste, napunitko siya. Maling apak lang, gano'n. I had to be sidelined for six months."

Theinjury depressed Marco, but it also gave him enough time to try other things. With the encouragement of his friend (and now manager) Arnold Vegafria, heauditioned for the role of Bea Alonzo's martyr husband in It Might Be You.

"Iwasn't expecting na okey 'yong role. Nag-enjoy ako sa new gameko. Acting na ang bagong laro ko ngayon."

He still playsbasketball with friends, but his attitude towards the sport has changed:"Feeling ko, basketball hindi para sa akin, e." The injury was"like a blessing in disguise," he adds. "Kung hindi ako na-injure, wala akosa showbiz."
