The world-class cable park of CamSur Watersports Complex in Pili, Camarines Sur, swarmed with celebrities and foreign wakeboarding champions from February 15 to 18, during the fifth annual Nivea summer event.

The highlight of the four-day event—which carried the theme “Celebrate Sunshine Goodness!”—was a whole-day wakeboarding group competition, participated in by five teams with eight celebrity members each.

Wakeboarding is defined by Wikipedia, the online encyclopedia, as “a surface water sport which involves riding the wake of a speed boat on a single board. It was developed from a combination of water skiing, snow boarding, and surfing techniques.”

The Nivea competition used a variant of wakeboarding and water skiing known as cable skiing. In this variant, according to the website www.waterski-wakeboard.ca, cables above the water’s surface, instead of a speed boat, pull you on your wakeboard, water skis, or any other towed watersports device.

Events manager Marilen Nuñez, of LenPlus Inc., which was in charge of organizing the event, said it was decided to hold the competition at the CamSur Watersports Complex “para maiba naman.” Previous Nivea challenges were held on the beach or in the seawaters of Boracay, Bohol, and Palawan.
