Magkakaibigan sina Precious Lara Quigaman (Miss International 2005), Karen Loren Agustin-Ostrea (Binibining Pilipinas-Universe 2002) at Denille Lou Valmonte (Bininibing Pilipinas-International 2006) at may common dream sila: to create a new type of beauty contest that is bigger in scope— candidates will represent a province or a Metro Manila city.
That dream is now a reality as the three past winners of Binibining Pilipinas have created a Turismo Filipina Charities Inc., a non-stock, non-profit organization that will spearhead the creation of Turismo Filipina search.
Standard ang qualifications for the new contest na may grand coronation night this October 10 sa AFP Theater: looks, height, beauty, brains, talent—and knowledge of the province she will represent.
Kinausap na ng tatlo ang Governors League of the Philippines and, in principle, pumayag na sila kung saan bawat province ay magpapadala ng isang representative. The screening started last August 16 with a weekend go-see until September 7 sa Rembrandt Hotel.
If ever, this will be the biggest female beauty contest in terms of scope and number of contestants. According to Karen during the presscon na ginawa last Thursday sa TriNoma, there are 82 provinces daw in the Philippines plus 18 Metro Manila cities, so they are expecting at least 80 to 90 contestants for the first year.
Hindi naman daw nila kinakalaban ang Binibining Pilipinas kung saan sila lahat nagmula dahil more on tourism ito. May meeting na rin sila sa Department of Tourism to set up a partnership since the winner will be the Ambassador of Tourism in the Philippines.
The winner will get to win 250 thousand cash prize, management contract, hordes of sponsor prizes and the sash and crown na sila mismo ang nag disenyo.
If the first year will be successful, magkakaroon ng offshoot ang Turismo Filipina na tatawagin naman nilang Turismo Filipina International, which will have Filipina contestants representing the country where they are presently staying or working.
