Magkakaibigan sinaPrecious Lara Quigaman (Miss International 2005), Karen Loren Agustin-Ostrea(Binibining Pilipinas-Universe 2002) at Denille Lou Valmonte (BininibingPilipinas-International 2006) at may common dream sila: to create a new type ofbeauty contest that is bigger in scope— candidates will represent aprovince or a Metro Manila city.
That dream is now areality as the three past winners of Binibining Pilipinas have created a TurismoFilipina Charities Inc., a non-stock, non-profit organization that willspearhead the creation of Turismo Filipina search.
Standard ang qualificationsfor the new contest na may grand coronation night this October 10 sa AFPTheater: looks, height, beauty, brains, talent—andknowledge of the province she will represent.
Kinausap na ng tatloang Governors League of the Philippines and, in principle, pumayag na sila kungsaan bawat province ay magpapadala ng isang representative. The screeningstarted last August 16 with a weekend go-see until September 7 sa RembrandtHotel.
If ever, this will bethe biggest female beauty contest in terms of scope and number of contestants. Accordingto Karen during the presscon na ginawa last Thursday sa TriNoma, there are 82provinces daw in the Philippines plus 18 Metro Manila cities, so they areexpecting at least 80 to 90 contestants for the first year.
Hindi naman daw nilakinakalaban ang Binibining Pilipinas kung saan sila lahat nagmula dahil more ontourism ito. May meeting na rin sila sa Department of Tourism to set upa partnership since the winner will be the Ambassador of Tourism in the Philippines.
The winner will get towin 250 thousand cash prize, management contract, hordes of sponsor prizes andthe sash and crown na sila mismo ang nag disenyo.
If the first year willbe successful, magkakaroon ng offshoot ang Turismo Filipina na tatawagin namannilang Turismo Filipina International, which will have Filipina contestants representing the country where they are presently staying or working.
