Judy Ann Santos ventures into cologne business

Judy Ann Santos on the longevity of her signature scent collection: "Magkakaiba tayo ng body chemistry inusing colognes and perfumes, eh. So sa akin kasi, may mga pabango na hinditumatagal sa katawan ko pero mas tumatagal ang scent ng cologne sa 'kin. Kayamas nag-concentrate din ako sa cologne kasi pag pabango, parang pakiramdam ko nahindi ako naligo at nabuhusan lang ako ng kung ano 'tapos masangsang na yungamoy ko, sira na yung araw ko."


On top of her being a movie star, soap opera idol, filmproducer, restaurateur, and product endorser—Judy Ann Santos is also a businesswoman.

She introduced her baby line in 2006, and just this afternoon, November 16, she launched the Judy Ann fragrance collection forScents and Blends.

In a presscon held at the Secret Café, a cozyrestaurant-café owned by Fanny Serrano, herpartners related that the 30-year-old actress is very hands-on when it comes toher latest venture, and is generous in sharing her input—from choosing the scent to the kind of bottle which will be used to package the product.

Fanny, also a business partner, said: "Yung [pagiging] negosyante niya, yun ang naramdaman namin.Actually, kokonti lang na talagang [artista yung] mararamdaman mo pag nakikipag-usap ka sakanila, yung 'Ooopps...negosyante ‘to.'"

He continued: "Kasi marami nang lumapit sa amin, gusto dingmagpagawa ng gusto nila, ang tanong nila, ‘Papa'no may kita? Baka naman kungsaan pumalo 'yan?' Ay naku, medyo wala na...Nabibingi na ‘ko pag naririnig ko nayung mga ganun."

Juday happily announced that her baby line—soap, lotion, and cologne—is doing well in the market.

And zeroing in on her fragrance line, the Ploning producer described: "Yung baby products po hindi po namin nilagyan ng alcohol, water-basedpo siya. Pero yung perfume, [may] second blends din po kasi...[Sa baby cologne],meron kaming tinatawag na isang ingredient dito na hindi puwedeng mawala paramag-suit sa baby."

The Kapamilya star, who was recently cited by Marie Claire as one of the "TenIncredible Women" in the country, also noted that her colognes areeco-friendly.

"Ito po wala kasi, since yung alcohol naman na ginamit dito, eh,hindi naman talaga 100 percent pure alcohol, hindi ito makakasira sa or makakaapektopa sa Global Warming, kung yun ang pinaguusapan natin," she explained.

"And ngayon po, susubukan naming...kasi marami naman ngmaterials na eco-friendly, eh, so magsisimula kami sa packaging. Susubukannaming maghanap ng packaging na eco-friendly."

Also present during the presscon was Jose Mari Quibilan, theCEO of Scents & Blends, which was founded in 1999 and opened its first"well-being and fragrance bar" last 2000.

He stressed that the "top three European companies" supplytheir materials, and that the products are "hindi lang pambata, minsanpangmatanda."

Judy Ann added, "Puwede rin panlalaki kasi pang-colognetalaga siya, eh. Yung scents naman niya hindi lang basta pambabae lang. We tryto get a product na unisex talaga. Para everybody has [a scent suited for him/her]."

When asked about her fiancé's favorite scent, Juday replied,"Mabango naman na ako."

Tabloid writer Dondon Sermino also inquired, with tinge of humor, "Hindi raw ba'to mahapdi sa balat [o] kahit saang parte ng katawan?"

Judy quipped, "May mga parte sa katawannatin na kapag nilalagyan ng alcohol, eh, sadyang nagiging mahapdi. Pero sapagkakataong ito, ito ang isang bagay na hindi dapat inilalagay sa mga bahaginghumahapdi, maaanghang na parte ng katawan."

The room roared with laughter.

Lastly, Juday discussed her plans for Christmas.

To date, she and her family are still in the process of decorating her home with Christmas lights. Plus, she's going to be busy with her charity projects in Bataan and at the Cuyo District Hospital in Palawan.

She ends, "I made a promise to them [Cuyo people]na lahat ng hospital materials na kailangan nila, isa-submit namin."
