With her sunny disposition and warm personality, it's hard to imagine Melissa Ricks ever being shy. But when she was 14 and starting in the biz, Melissa spent most other time avoiding the press. "Dati, nagtatago pa ako pag may nakikitang reporter," she recalls. "Nagtatago ako sa likod ng mga post ng ABS-CBN."
She didn't even mix with other showbiz folk. Eventually, she learned to socialize. "Siyempre, kailangan mong makisama."
Melissa, at 5-foot-7, towers over a lot of male stars her age. "Dati, si Joseph Bitangcol ang ka-love team ko. Dati, magka-height kami. Pero bigla na lang akong tumangkad."
For three years, she was on solo flight. That was before another reality show, Pinoy Big Brother: Teen Edition, discovered a 5-foot-9 half-American boy named Matt Evans.
Matt changed Melissa's "single status"—and their love team is a hit. It has even spawned a cult of followers who call themselves The Adventurers.
With her career on the rise, there's nothing else Melissa could ask for. Well, maybe just one more: "Kahit isang billboard lang sa EDSA."
