"Noong sinuot ko 'yong costume, parang nagtaka ako sa sarili ko. Parang naisip ko, 'Kaya ko ba ito? Maganda ba?' Pero noong nakita ko 'yong end result, okay naman," says Christian Bautista about taking on the hero's image in Edward Scissorhands.

In time for the Academy Awards fever, Velvet channel presented the first-ever Oscars photo exhibit dubbed "Tribute to the Oscars" last Friday, February 20, at the Ayala Museum in Makati City.

Local celebrities transformed into Hollywood's Academy-award winners and nominees. Singer-actress Karylle became Georgina Spencer, the Duchess of Devonshire (played by Keira Knightley), from the 2008 movie The Duchess. Anne Curtis took on Nicole Kidman's character, Satine, in the 2001 movie Moulin Rouge. Baron Geisler joined the group as the underdog amateur boxer named Rocky Balboa (Sylvester Stallone) in the 1976 Academy Best Picture Rocky, and Christian Bautista portrayed the titular Edward Scissorhands (played by Johnny Depp).

Meanwhile, actor Diether Ocampo and his team won the gold award for impersonating the patriarch of the Sicilian mafia, Don Vito Corleone (Marlon Brando), in the award-winning movie The Godfather (1972).

Other celebrities who participated in this pre-Academy Awards photo exhibit were young actor Enchong Dee, Matanglawin host Kim Atienza, Kjwan band member Marc Abaya, models Bianca Araneta, Bianca Valerio, Divine Lee, Leica Carpio, and Tweetie de Leon-Gonzales, entrepreneur Erik Cua, breast cancer-awareness advocate Pinky Tobiano, and the all-male group Coverboys.

Aside from this photo gallery, Velvet also presented the live telecast of Academy Awards this morning. Catch the primetime encore telecast on Velvet today at 6:00 p.m. and a replay of the complete coverage on Saturday, February 28, 3:30 p.m.

The first primetime telecast on free TV will be aired tomorrow, February 24, 7:00 p.m.
