Katorse lead star Erich Gonzales was not able to contain her tears at the press conference of ABS-CBN's upcoming series, Katorse, held recently. Erich defended her late dad against reports that her father was a member of the New People's Army.

Erich Gonzales was reduced to tears at the press conference of her upcoming series Katorse, which was held recently at ABS-CBN in Quezon City.

The emotional outburst happened when her relationship with her late father was brought up.

After the presscon proper, Erich was asked to clarify past reports that her father allegedly was a member of the left-wing rebel movement. Some of those who believed the news surmised that this was perhaps why the young actress's dad deserted the family completely.

DEFENDING HER LATE DAD. Erich maintained that her absent father may have had his own beliefs.

"I don't think naman na si Papa NPA [New People's Army-Communist Party of the Philippines] and if ever naman ganun siya, tayo naman may sari-sariling paniniwala, di ba? Kung 'yon yung paninindigan niya, 'yong paniniwala niya, lahat naman tayo may kanya-kanyang opinyon, kung anong gustong gawin sa buhay," the 18-year-old actress reasoned out.

"Sa akin hindi ko alam but siguro po kung ano mang naisip gawin ni Papa, siguro may reason siya behind that, and sa akin po, kung ano man 'yong nangyari sa past matagal ko na pong natanggap 'yon and I believe lahat nga po ng nangyayari may reason."

ACCEPTANCE. Erich learned to accept the less-than-ideal dynamics of her family life, more so with the passing of her father. The Kapamilya star only learned about the death of her dad through a distant relative.

"Sayang lang talaga, sana nagkaroon pa ng chance na nakasama ko siya," said Erich with much sadness. "He will always be my father kahit ano po yong nangyari, walang regrets na bakit ganito, bakit ganyan. So 'yon po, tanggap ko na ganun talaga."

Erich will star in the television remake of the classic film Katorse, portraying the lead role Nene, which was originally played by Dina Bonnevie.
