Angelica Panganiban has nothing to worry about in the next few months because ABS-CBN has several projects, both on TV and the big screen, lined up for her.
Angelica signed a two-year movie contract with Star Cinema yesterday, June 10. The contract includes the movie she is shooting right now with boyfriend Derek Ramsay and former matinee idol Gabby Concepcion, titled I Love You, Goodbye. She is also slated to do a movie with film director Jeffrey Jeturian which also stars fellow Kapamilya actresses Bea Alonzo, Kim Chiu, and Pokwang; and another planned movie with comedian Vhong Navarro.
On television, she's currently appearing in the weekly gag show Banana Split, where her segment with former Pinoy Big Brother housemate Jayson Gainza called "NNNN" (a parody of showbiz news program Showbiz News Ngayon) is slowly becoming a hit among viewers. PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) also heard that she's doing the Pinoy adaptation of the Mexicanovela Rubi in 2010.
Angelica, who has been a Kapamilya for 16 years, is grateful for the continued support that her mother network is giving her.
Alam mong magagandang pelikula lang ang gagawin mo," said Angelica about her two-year contract with the film arm of ABS-CBN.
WORKING WITH GABBY CONCEPCION. Angelica revealed that she has become more relaxed in her daring scenes in I Love You, Goodbye compared to her first mature role in A Love Story opposite Aga Muhlach in 2007.
She said, "Siguro mas confident ako ngayon na umarte and, siyempre, mas confident ako na magpakita ng medyo mas maraming skin kaysa noong umpisa.
The young actress added that it is easy for her to do these scenes with Gabby Concepcion, who's much older than her, because they already worked together in the soap opera Iisa Pa Lamang last year.
"Kasi naging close kami ni Kuya Gabo," she explained. "Noong Iisa Pa Lamang pa lang kami, e, sobrang nag-aasaran na kami, and may mga pinagsamahan kaming mga out-of-town shows. Tapos, may out-of-the-country pa kami. Nag-show kami sa Rome, sa Barcelona. Iba 'yong bonding naming dalawa. Sobrang relax kami."
Does her boyfriend, Derek, get jealous about these scenes?
"Hindi, 'no! Hindi nga niya alam. Kapag napanood niya ito, alam na niya!" Angelica said with a laugh.
FIRST PROJECT WITH DEREK. Angelica also mentioned that she and Derek are both grateful for having a lot of projects this year.
She admitted that working with Derek for that first time is "nakakailang."
Kasi siyempre, nakilala niya ako bilang totoong tao.
But both of them have passed that stage and Angelica said that they now enjoy working together.
ON CRISTINE REYES. Entertainment reporters took the opportunity to ask Angelica about her co-star in Banana Split, Cristine Reyes, after the contract signing.
Rumors say that the reason Cristine does not appear in the said gag show anymore is because she has a problem with one of her co-actors. Although it was not identified who among Pokwang, RR Enriquez, and Angelica the rumor was referring to, Angelica is always being dragged into the issue.
It was obvious that Angelica was trying to avoid answering questions about it. Instead of giving an elaborate answer, she answered, "Basta po pumirma ako ng kontrata ngayon at wala siya dito."
In an interview with fewer members of the press later on, Angelica said she has no clue as to why her name is being connected to the issue. "Hindi ko po alam, naguguluhan na rin po ako kung bakit may ganoon," she said.
When asked how it all started, Angelica gave a vague answer.
Was Cristine axed from the show?
"Ginusto niya [umalis]," she replied.
Angelica clarified that there was never a problem between her and Cristine while they were still together in Banana Split.
In fact, she said, "Sobrang cool kami, e. Nag-culinary kami together.
