Director Maryo J. de los Reyes feels that the sex video controversy currently facing young sexy actress Katrina Halili is more of a career advantage than liability.
"Affected?" Direk Maryo asked back before continuing, "Siguro mas marami siyang fans ngayon kasi nung gumagawa kami ng Magdusa Ka, wala namang tumitili sa kanya habang nagte-taping kami. Ngayon, ang dami-dami crowd na sumusunod sa kanya, ang dami-daming tumitili sa kanya."
Direk Maryo and Katrina worked together last year in the television remake of the 1986 classic film, Magdusa Ka. The two reunite in GMA-7's upcoming primetime series, Rosalinda, starring Geoff Eigenmann and newcomer Carla Abellana.
Katrina graced the press presentation held last June 30 at Studio 5 of the GMA Network Center, but she immediately left after the ceremony. Many surmised that Katrina's immediate departure was to avoid the reporters eagerly waiting to conduct an interview. But according to Jhops Cruz of GMA Network's Corporate Communication, Katrina had another commitment.
"Para ngang 'yong nangyari sa kanyang krisis, 'yong iskandalo niya, is I think ano 'yon, e, it happens to everybody. It's part of your experience as a human being, as a person," Direk Maryo told PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal). "It just so happens that it is well-publicized because she's a celebrity and very controversial 'yong nangyari sa kanya."
The award-winning director commended the beleaguered sexy actress for her professionalism on the set in spite of all distractions caused by the controversy. It also helps that everyone, from the production crew to the co-stars, act normally in front of Katrina.
"Personally I feel na kung bakit siya kumportable in doing the show is because kumportable siya sa mga tao na kasama niya. I take credit na kumportable kami sa isa't isa at kumportable siya sa akin. Hindi ko siya tini-treat na iba or give her special treatment. I treat her the way I treated other actors," said Direk Maryo.
