Valerie Concepcion is happy that she will finally have her own teleserye in ABS-CBN, the upcoming afternoon series Pat Is Tin.
At the story conference of the said TV program yesterday, July 7, at Congo Grill restaurant on Tomas Morato, Quezon City, Valerie said, "Simula nang lumipat ako, di ba, nagsimula talaga ako ng drama, e. Parang maraming tao ang nagtatanong sa akin, 'Kelan ka ba magkakaroon ng soap?' So, parang it's really here. I'm happy and so thankful and I feel blessed na, di ba, pinayagan ako ng Wowowee na mag-absent para makapag-taping ako."
In Pat Si Tin, Valerie will play the role of Tin, whose body will be used by the soul of Pat—to be played by Rez Cortez's daughter, Cai Cortez—after a tragic accident. That's why Valerie will have to maintain her slim figure to keep up with her character.
"It's really challenging," said Valerie about her character. "Feeling ko, ang daming mga twist ng story, so parang feeling ko, magiging masaya. At the same time, that will be hard kasi, di ba, kailangan kong ipakita 'yong way kung paano siya [Cai Cortez] kumilos, kung paano siya magsalita, 'yon ang challenge doon."
Valerie said that it was really her intention to lose weight for the show. "Ako, kailangan ko talaga mag-lose ng weight. On my own lang, ha, kailangan ko talagang magpapayat."
She added, "Sana magawa namin nang maayos, alam mo 'yon, kasi ito na ang sarili naming show. Sana 'yong tiwala na ibinigay sa amin ng ABS-CBN for this project, sana ma-fulfill namin, sana mabigay namin ang gusto nilang makita."
CRISTINE-RR FEUD. This being the first time that Valerie faced the entertainment press after the heated argument between RR Enriquez and Cristine Reyes came out, PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) asked for her reaction. The Wowowee co-host's name was dragged into the issue during the exchange of text messages between the two Banana Split actresses. (Click here to read related article.)
In her text message sent to RR, which was published in PEP, Cristine said: "Pinilit kong maging close. Gusto nga kita sugurin noon lalo na nung na-wrong send ka kay Valerie ng panglalait mo sa kanya. Akala mo napakalinis mo! Asar na asar ako. Pati mga bag at kung anu-anong meron kay Val, hinusgahan n'yo yung tao. Pero kahit ganoon, kinakaibigan pa rin kita dahil si Val ang nagsabi na ayaw niya ng gulo."
When asked to comment on this, Valerie kept her mouth shut and shook her head. I don't wanna really meddle because I don't wanna offend any of them, so no comment na lang."
Is it true that she also had an issue with RR before?
Instead of giving an answer, Valerie pleaded, "Ayaw ko na lang mag-comment talaga. Ngayon lang ako hindi magsasalita. Lahat ng tanong ninyo sasagutin ko, 'yon lang talaga I don't wanna answer [that question]."
The former Banana Split cast member clarified that she's not taking any side on the issue. But she said that the public should understand that she knows Cristine more personally. She explained, "Kasi si Cristine, GMA-7 [artist pa lang ako], kasama ko na, e, so my friendship na talaga kami. But that doesn't mean na nagsa-side ako sa kanila, kasi hindi ko alam ang real story nila."
Did she make any effort to get both sides of the story?
Valerie seemed to be under stress and didn't know how to answer. Then she said, "I tried calling... Ayaw ko na! Huwag na! Hindi, I tried calling, getting 'yong side lang ni Cristine, so I called her. Then, kami naman ni RR, nag-usap kami in person."
Does she think that her former Banana Split co-stars will be able to settle their differences?
"Malabo pa siguro," Valerie replied. "Kumbaga, ibig ko sabihin, parang hindi magkaintindihan dahil masama ang loob ni Cristine kay RR, si RR masama rin ang loob niya kay Cristine."
Valerie remains hopeful that in due time, RR and Cristine will be able to fix their misunderstanding. "Siguro naman, lahat naman, di ba, all wounds heal naman. So ako, sana maayos nila soon, kasi mahirap, e, mahirap ang may kaaway sa showbiz."
