Aiza Seguerra is one of the few young artists in showbiz who can pull off working for two rival networks—ABS-CBN and GMA-7—at the same time. The acoustic singer regularly performs in the Kapamilya network's ASAP '09 as part of the "Sessionistas" segment. Her most recent albums were produced by Star Records.
She also guests regularly in GMA-7 shows like Eat Bulaga! and All Star K!. She also recorded "Friend of Mine," the theme song of the primetime soap opera All My Life, starring Kris Bernal and Aljur Abrenica.
During the launch of her new album Aiza: Live! last night, August 10, at Mugen Bar in Pasig City, Aiza said this situation is definitely an advantage for her. She is thankful to the management of the two giant networks for their generosity.
"Thankful pa rin ako na kahit papaano, talagang tinatawagan pa rin ako ng GMA... I mean, napapaalam naman lahat, e. I mean, wala lang bypass-an, 'ika nga," she told PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) and other entertainment press.
What Aiza wants to establish is that she's not limited by either ABS-CBN or GMA-7.
"Freelance talaga ako, e. Hindi ako under any network kumbaga...So siguro yung iba na nag-a-apply for other artists nila, medyo sa 'kin, sana maging lenient," Aiza explained.
The non-exclusivity, however, bears certain boundaries for her TV appearances. Since she regularly performs in ASAP '09, for instance, she cannot guest in SOP. ABS-CBN also prohibits her from recording the All My Life theme for an album.
But if there's one show that Aiza would never guest at all, it would be ABS-CBN's noontime show Wowowee. Its host Willie Revillame even told the audience once that he never expects the acoustic singer to grace his program.
Aiza said this firm decision is borne out of respect.
"Ayoko, of course, by choice... Of course, yung respeto ko is with Eat Bulaga! Sila yung nandiyan ever since para sa 'kin. Ayokong tumapat sa kanila. Yung loyalty ko will always be with them," the former child wonder said.
Aiza started in showbiz through Eat Bulaga's long-running pageant "Little Miss Philippines." She was only three years old when she won as fourth-runner up in the contest's 1987 cycle.
WOWOWEE ISSUE. The entertainment press asked Aiza her opinion about the recent controversy surrounding Willie, where he asked the live feed of the procession of former President Cory Aquino's remains from La Salle Greenhills to Manila Cathedral be removed while Wowowee is still ongoing. Aiza replied that she understands Willie's reasoning, but she thinks the host still handled the situation incorrectly.
"I kinda get his point, but the execution was very very wrong... Off nga naman na nagsasayawan, naggigiling-giling yung mga tao sa isang box dun. Pero sana lang, mas nasabi niya na maganda, nasa appropriate na... I mean, timing. Puwede naman sa gap, e. Very disturbing, medyo sensitive issue kasi, e," Aiza explained.
The acoustic singer, however, did not want to comment on the poem that Tito Joey de Leon composed regarding the issue. (Click here to read related story.)
"Kasi, hindi ko pa nakikita so hindi ako makakapag-comment. Well, Tito Joey, laging... Siguro kung feeling niya medyo hindi nga maganda, talagang may sasabihin siya. Not just with Willie, pero with other peope also. Very ano siya, e, blunt and prangka," Aiza said about the veteran comedian and TV host.
Aiza: Live! produced by Star Records, is now available in all major record bars nationwide.
