The marathon aimed to promote awareness for clean elections in the May 2010 elections. Piolo added that it was also organized "to empower the youth to practice their right to vote."
He continued, "It's gonna be two months from now to the elections, I just wanna encourage them, especially these young celebrities, to influence the people, 'yong mga sumusunod sa kanila. Just be a good example, to lead by good example, and make them realize that we are also part of our nation's future. So, we have to practice our right to vote, to do what is right, be responsible."
Piolo was glad to see his fellow celebrities engaging in sports such as the Star Magic Run
"I hope this is not the first and the last," he told the media. "I hope marami pa kaming runs na pagsaluhan. But I'm excited because a lot of them are into running now. So, I hope hindi ito ang huli nila."
Piolo was very competitive in running at the 5k category. Unfortunately, he did not make it to the top three spots.
"I tried to finish on top pero atleta ang mga kalaban natin, sila Engchong [Dee] at Nico [Antonio]," the actor said.
Enchong and Nico finished first and second, respectively. Piolo's former The Hunks co-member Amir [or Carlos Agassi] placed third.
"I was surprised with Amir," Piolo commented on the Agua Bendita actor. "Amir's first run was the same as mine last year. So, nakita niyo naman siguro, he actually finished 21k before this run. And nakita n'yo naman talaga na he's really fit. I'm proud of him."
GETTING READY FOR TRIATHLON. Aside from its cause and health benefit, Piolo treated the fun run as part of his training for the next Ironman 70.3 Philippines in Camarines Sur in August this year.
The actor-singer said he's planning to join the second Ironman competition in the country since it would be sponsored by one of his product endorsements, Timex. Piolo joined the 2009 Timex Run last November at The Fort.
He said, "Being the image model of Timex for the last eight years, I think it's a good boost not just for me but also with Timex. As partners, we grew together. I know naman that Timex has been very involved in running and now sa Ironman every year they do it. I'd like to be part of it as well.
"I always wanted to do triathlon. Noong nag-Timex run kami last year, they invited me. Before that was the first Ironman in Camsur. This year is the second year, so I told them na my goal really is for the Ironman in August para makasali naman ako."
How is he preparing for this event?
"I'm training with a coach," he replied. "I just had my session sa pool last week. Then, I'm also fixing my bike. Running naman, I've been training since last year. So, 'yong bike and swimming ang pagtutuunan ko ng pansin ngayon.
If possible, Piolo would want to do all the three courses: swimming, bicycle and race courses.
"If I can do all three, why not?" stated Piolo. "I'm training for it. Sana ma-meet ko 'yong quota. Kung hindi naman, may next year pa naman."
Which category would be difficult for him? Piolo admitted, it would be the swimming course.
He explained, "Kasi iba talaga ang technique no'n, e, sa breathing. E, hindi naman ako swimmer, e. I used to swim pero iba 'yong technique, iba 'yong form niya. Sa bike and run, they go hand-in-hand. Sa swimming talaga ako nahihirapan."
Right now, Piolo is trying to squeeze his training schedule into his showbiz engagements.
"You know, depende sa schedule. I'm using my free time para mag-train nang mag-train. Kasi, kapag naging busy na naman sa schedule, mahirap. Kapag free days, nagte-train talaga ako," the matinee idol remarked.
