Even a seasoned actor like Gabby Concepcion is prone to occasional anxiety attacks every time a new project is in the works. Compounding Gabby's nerves is the thought that his next movie under Star Cinema titled I'll Be There For You will cast him alongside daughter KC Concepcion.
"'Yong expectation, kasi 'yon ang nakakakaba sa lahat. Hindi mo alam kung anong magiging acceptance ng mga tao. So far naman, I have high hopes na magugustuhan ng mga tao," said Gabby in an interview with PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) yesterday, March 4, after a pictorial for I/M men's clothing line inside an exclusive subdivision in Quezon City.
Delivering the dialogues on the script is no problem, said Gabby. It was the "internalization of events na supposed to be hindi kayo nag-uusap kasi galit siya [KC] sa iyo. E, wala naman kaming incident na ganun," that made it necessary for him and KC to go through an acting workshop.
Trading drama scenes with KC was a surreal experience, said Gabby. He found the situation complex, given the history of their relationship as father and daughter.
"Hindi mo naman puwedeng sabihin na sanay na 'ko. Kasi ang pinupuhunan natin sa industriya bilang artista ay 'yong mga emosyon nung nakaraan o nangyari na o mangyayari pa lang. Emotionally, hinuhugot mo 'yon dun sa karanasan mo. Siyempre, that's really close to home," said Gabby, referring to the emotional roller coaster of their relationship in the past.
When he returned to Manila in 2008 to resume his showbiz career, Gabby made it a point to repair broken relationships left behind when he migrated to the States in 1995.
Working with KC on a project where they will see each other frequently allows the former matinee idol to do exactly what he had vowed to do.
"We missed each other kaya 'yong time na we're spending together, talagang quality time. Busy schedule niya, busy schedule ko, ayaw talagang magtugma so this is the best time na puwede kaming mag-bonding," beamed Gabby.
