"Hanggang tatlo, sa tingin ko, kayang-kaya," said the comedian, who stars in a game show and a sitcom for TV5, "which is good for the industry. Good for advertisers, marami silang mapagpipilian, good for the talents kasi marami silang trabaho, and good for the producers."

Vic Sotto did not hesistate when TV5 asked him if they could have a spin-off of his 2009 Metro Manila Film Festival entry Ang Darling Kong Aswang as a TV series. The comedian was already thinking of being part of the TV5 family so he agreed to do the Sunday sitcom My Darling Aswang.

"Alam naman natin where TV5 is coming from. Noong alukin ako ng TV5 people to do Who Wants To Be A Millionaire, I immediately said yes dahil sa show. It had nothing to do kung anong station ito, basta ang importante sa akin Who Wants To Be A Millionaire.

"In this case, 'yong My Darling Aswang, when they talked to me kung may possibility of making a show na sort of a spin-off ng movie na Ang Darling Kong Aswang, ang naisip ko is about the station already," he said during the press conference for the show last Friday, April 30, at Annabel's Restaurant on Tomas Morato Ave., Quezon City.

GOOD FOR THE INDUSTRY. He added, "I want to be part of TV5. I know soon, or maybe later, this will be a major network. And personally, I feel na there's still a lot of room for another network. So hanggang tatlo, sa tingin ko, kayang-kaya—which is good for the industry. Good for advertisers, marami silang mapagpipilian, good for the talents kasi marami silang trabaho, and good for the producers. Basta, in general, it's good for the industry.

"So, noong iniharap nila sa akin ito, hindi na ako nag-hesitate. I want to be a part of it. I don't have anything personal with GMA-7 or ABS-CBN, lahat naman sila kaibigan ko. I just want to see TV5 to be the third major network in our TV industry."

Initially, the newly revamped TV5 asked Vic if he wanted to move Ful Haus, his defunct sitcom on GMA-7. However, it was impossible because his leading lady in the series, girlfriend Pia Guanio, has an exclusive contract with the Kapuso station.

"So, hindi namin ginawa," he related. "We had to think of another format. Nabago na lahat. Dapat parang Ful Haus din, papalitan lang ang title pero same characters, same everything."

But the comedy actor was not sure if Pia could appear on the show even as a guest because of her contract, which expires in June.

"It's yearly na nire-renew. Alam naman natin ang kontrata ng mga networks, laging in favor of them. So, meron silang option to renew kahit ayaw mo na. Now, they're very strict about it lalo na 'yong exclusivity clause. I believe that parang sa TV5. Parang lang naman, ewan ko kung totoo. Parang lang naman, e, hindi ko sinasabing totoo," he stated.

Joining Vic in My Darling Aswang are Daiana Menezes, Tetchie Agbayani, Jose Manalo, Wally Bayona, Richie D' Horsie, Ces Quesada, Kakai Bautista and Miguel Faustman.

ONE AND ONLY DOLPHY. Vic has been asked many times if he's ready to take the place of Comedy King Dolphy. But for the actor, his idol is irreplaceable.

'Yong career ni Dolphy, walang puwedeng pumatay doon," he stated. "That's a forever thing, magpakailanman, Dolphy will always remain here. Kailangan nasa shooting or something to do with showbiz."

He also added, "Wala namang puwedeng pumantay sa kanya. Madalas ako matanong kung ako na nga ang papalit, pero wala namang kapalit si Dolphy, e. He's one and only and he will always remain my idol."

HELPING BROTHER TITO'S CAMPAIGN. Last April 28, the Box Office King celebrated his 56th birthday. And one of his wishes was for his brother Tito Sotto to be elected senator again.

To show his support for his older brother, Vic accompanies him on some of his campaign rallies. Next week, they will be in Davao for a motorcade with the mayor.

"Maganda naman ang reception sa kanya," said Vic about these sorties. "Napakasipag ni Tito, e. Siguro 'yon ang kagandahan ng independent, ikaw ang bahala sa buhay mo. Kung saan mo gustong pumunta at makihalubilo sa tao, nasa iyo. So sa ngayon, ganun ang ginagawa niya. And I think it's doing him well. The ratings are doing good, very high."

On May 10, Vic really hopes that Tito Sotto will be elected as one of the 12 senators. He said, "Parati ko ngang sinasabi. Ang mga wishes ko is not for me but for other people—my children, my family, my brother. At tulad ng kay Tito, sana mapagbigyan siya ulit ng ating mga kababayan."

He fully supports Tito's platform. "Kasi, naniniwala ako sa kanyang gustong gawin. 'Yong special drug courts, napakaimportante noon, napakaganda kung maisasabatas."
