So, ganap na siyang Kapatid?
"It's really something na you wouldn't say it's an offer that you can't refuse. Not just financially but basically the opportunities to work with these people. Parang noong nakilala ko talaga yung mga management ng TV5, it's really something na ibang-iba talaga. Ibang-iba... it's like, wow, oh my God!"
Dugtong pa niya, "I was just so impressed with everyone. Yung staff ng show, the management of the channel, sa hosts. Natatakot ako baka kapag nalaman ni Cristy [Fermin] na kasama ako sa Paparazzi, baka anong mangyayari sa akin. But the moment I saw her, we're like really okay. So, it was really a great opportunity."
WASN'T ASKED TO STAY. Even before the launching ng revamped TV5 noong March 25, napakalakas na ng buzz na lilipat siya from GMA-7 to TV5. Pero at the time, sa kanyang mga panayam, ang impression na binibigay niya ay wala pang definite or final na desisyon. So, all along nasa plano na pala ang paglipat niya?
"No, no, I have to wait for my contract in GMA to expire. Ayoko rin na madamay naman ang TV5 kung sasabihin nila na, 'Si Mo, pupunta na rito hindi pa man tapos ang contract niya sa GMA.'
"It just something na business decision that you make. And you have to do with the process. I think, alam naman ng lahat that I'll probably move."
"No, there was really no offer or any promising outlook na sabi nila."
How did he feel na walang counter-offer?
"It was okay naman with them. They have a decision to make and they have business to run."
"It's okay naman with me if there's no counter-offer. Sana lang at least, may thank you. Nag-thank you or, 'We value your work,' or whatever."
UPSET.
"I know, I know... I think they were upset that some reports came out na may rumor na I was interested in leaving but I don't think that would change their outlook of my future there. I was more like kung magagalit sila or hindi."
More than three years din siyang Kapuso. Kaya tinanong namin siya kung hindi ba naging smooth ang three-year relationship niya with the network?
"No, I would say it wholeheartedly and honestly, since the day I was in SOP and the days I was in Showbiz Central, my only relationship with GMA is with the staff of the shows. It was never with the management. I've never met the president.
"I only met Wilma Galvante, for the four years that I've been doing GMA, a few weeks ago. There was no phone calls, lunches or dinner or cards or Christmas... it was only me and my relationship with my executive producer and my program manager."
"COLD" REPLY.
But a few weeks ago, he had a meeting with Ms. Wilma Galvante. How did it go?
"I just wanted to know what are their thoughts for me, leaving after my contract expired and, you know... I just wanted to meet. I'm still thankful for all that GMA has done for me."
What about the reply to his letter?
"Yeah, they wrote me a reply letter that's for me not very Kapuso-like. I just said that, I'm thinking about leaving and I'm interested in exploring other things and the reply letter was very cold. Walang, 'Thank you for your time or we appreciate you or sana, pag-usapan natin 'to,' walang ganun... it was very cold. Cold like, 'I want to remind you your contract ends at May and if you go to another channel, we'll see you in court.' You know, if you call yourself Kapuso, you act like it."
MEETING WITH WILMA GALVANTE.
"It was at the beginning, si Ms. Wilma, medyo loud and assertive, pero, towards the end, she hugged me pa and everything, so, she was okay. Nagtaas ng konting boses, pero, sa umpisa lang. Maybe, that's just her style or hindi niya naiintindihan ang point ko or hindi ko naiintindihan ang point niya.
"And then, later on, it came to a point where, siyempre, she's the boss, so, ang boss puwedeng sumigaw. But at the end, she hugged me and all I said naman, all I wanted was a lunch. Kahit chicken sandwich or even phone call about how I'm being valued, but that never happened. Nag-sorry naman siya and then she said, 'It's okay."
Narinig naman niya ang gusto niyang marinig?
"Something like that, it's just that I hope it's genuine."
"Yeah, we're not fighting. We're okay. It's just you know, she's the top dog of the production and you all recognize her name. So, when I said I want a meeting with her, you all wanna know how it went. But that was all. It was just a meeting. There's no more follow-up, phone calls or anything."
BURNING HIS BRIDGES. Nilinaw rin ni Mo na hindi raw niya tinutukoy ang buong network when he said na hindi ito "Kapuso-like."
"I was referring with my experience with the letter only that they sent me and it was not very Kapuso experience, but I was not saying... there's a lot of good people that work in GMA. It just so happens that the response to my inquiry was held in not a very Kapuso lifestyle. But Wilma apologized for that, so that's okay."
"I think I did. I think there are bridges that burnt, but probably that's part of it. It's business but it's also part of our life. Kapag may isang party na hindi okey, talagang you're gonna burn some bridges."
Tinanong namin si Mo, kung nagkataong may counter-offer, would he have remained a Kapuso?
"Oh no, I'm here. I wanted to be here. This is what I wanted. If you ask TV5 people if this is what I wanted, this is what we wanted. This is something we can't express in public yet and now we can. Now, I'm saying I'm happy to be here. I'm happy to be with everybody. There's not one person na medyo nara-rub the wrong way. Everyone has been the best and I know it's a showbiz answer na lahat ng celebrities when they choose a new network, they say na masaya but I can't express the most genuine way how happy I am with the people of TV5, they are amazing. That was all the way from the top."
"I miss you guys. But, you know, I'm sure a lot of us have jumped from station to station before. So, this is something as a career path of a lot of celebrities. It happened in sports that one team goes to another but that doesn't mean hindi na kayo kaibigan or anything like that.
"I will see my friends in GMA because we all have cell phone numbers and stuff like that. We'll never know, some of them will come here as well and realize that life is so much better," natatawa niyang pahayag.
