Sharon Cuneta on KC Concepcion's new talk show: "Proud na proud ako sa kanya."

Sharon Cuneta briefly talked about her upcoming movie with Star Cinema. "I'm going to start my movie with Star Cinema. For the first time ever, horror ang gagawin ko. Maganda, maganda. Maganda gumawa ang Star ng horror e," she said.

Sharon Cuneta is thankful that Simply KC, her daughter KC Concepcion's new daily talk show in ABS-CBN, is doing well at the ratings.

"Thank you. Thank you! Wala akong masasabi kundi proud na proud ako sa kanya," Sharon told the press in a brief interview after her press conference for McDonald's Cheeseburger Campaign, at the fastfood chain's Greenbelt Branch in Makati this afternoon, June 10.

Sharon added, however, that she is not able to catch the show on television.

"Hindi nga ako nakanood kasi kapag maalala ko, tapos na, o kung gigising ako late, or nagtatrabaho ako," she explained.

To make up, Sharon makes it a point to catch up with all the episodes. "Kanina sa car, yun yung pinapanood ko. Pina-record ko siya. Inumpisahan ko. First episode pa lang nga ako, e."

LOVE FOR BOOKS. McDonald's Cheeseburger Campaign aims to improve the country's literacy rate. And so the entertainment press felt it was natural to ask Sharon about her love for books during the press conference.

"The truth is, my books are the ones that take a lot of space in our home," she excitedly related. "I have had a love affair with the written word for as long as I can remember."

She added, "When people ask me when I find the time to read, I wonder why they have to ask that question. It's a no-brainer—you can read on the way to work, in the banyo. Ako, no matter what I do, I have to be reading something, except when I'm eating with my family. Pag may nakikita akong words, sasabihin ko, 'Sayang naman! Sinulat 'yan, inisip. Basahin ko nga!'"

Sharon said her book collection comes to "tens of thousands." Her favorite books are biographies. "Bios of actresses, actors, politicians, wealthy people, people who have so much power at a certain point, and who know how to use that power. Like Mao Zedong, Adolf Hitler, and the like... I don't know. My first friend, I remember, was Sherlock Holmes when I was in grade school," she said.

The award-winning actress also explained that her husband, Sen. Francis "Kiko" Pangilinan, and her two young daughters, Frankie and Miel, are all avid readers.

"We're funny, we can all be in the same room, reading. On a certain time, we're all just quietly reading all together, and then magtitinginan kami. Ano 'to? We're nerds! We are proud nerds!"

There was even a time when she brought "maletas of books" for travel. Now, she uses the Amazon Kindle e-book reader to lighten her luggage.

"I have 19 Kindles, and 15 are full. When I travel, I just bring my Kindle. Masarap siyang gadget, masarap gamitin," Sharon said.
