Love blooms in Sharon Cuneta's Mega Drama concert

Sharon Cuneta's songs in Mega Drama included classic OPM hits "Kahit Maputi na ang Buhok Ko," "Habang May Buhay," "Kahit Konting Pagtingin," "Minsan Minahal ay Ako," "Bituing Walang Ningning," and "Ang Ating Musika."

Sharon Cuneta's Mega Drama concert last August 7 at Araneta Coliseum yielded no heavy drama. Unlike Sharon's classic films, the two-hour concert encouraged no sad tears, no extreme joy, and did not convince the audience to plot revenge on an evil kontrabida.

The dominant emotion featured in Mega Drama was love in all its beauty and splendor.

There was love in the way Sharon—whose showbiz career spans 30 years of bestselling records and box-office breaking films—humbly bowed to her audience the moment she first set foot onstage. There was love in the way they cheered her through the entire show.

Sharon lovingly performed all her sets, from the romantic, to the inspirational, to the nationalistic. Love was why she chose Ryan Cayabyab's music, a Louie Ocampo medley, and an Ogie Alcasid medley in her repertoire.

Sharon happily announced to the audience that her close friends Ogie Alcasid and Regine Velasquez are getting married soon. Love also soared when Sharon told Piolo Pascual she approves of him for her daughter, KC Concepcion.

"Sorpresa ko 'yan sa 'yo, KC," Sharon told her teary-eyed daughter, who was watching her in the audience.

CONCERT BEGINS. KC and her family, stepfather Sen. Francis "Kiko" Pangilinan and her sisters Frankie and Miel, arrived at the concert venue only minutes before it started at 9:15 p.m.

The moment they took their seats in the front row, their fans in the patrons' section mobbed them with picture taking. They gamely posed for the souvenir shots.

Other celebrities in the audience generously had their photos taken with the fans: Regine Velasquez, Tintin Bersola-Babao, Ciara Sotto and her husband Jojo Oconer, John Manalo, Dingdong Avanzado, and Jinkee Pacquiao.

Presidential sisters Pinky Aquino-Abellada and Ballsy Aquino-Cruz took time off from their busy schedule to watch Sharon's concert.

Sharon's first song paid homage to her fans and close friends over the years. Altering the lyrics to "Kahit Maputi na Ang Buhok Ko," Sharon sang:

"Ang nakalipas ay ibabalik natin ooh

Ipapaalala ko sa inyo

Ang aking pangako

Na ang pag-ibig ko'y laging sa inyo

Kahit maputi na ang buhok ko."

After the song, Sharon intimately told the audience, "Alam niyo, nagkakalakas lang ako ng loob kung nand'yan kayo."

Sharon then sang APO Hiking Society's "Pag-ibig" and "Panalangin," Mae Rivera's "Bakit Ako Mahihiya," Imelda Papin's "Kung Liligaya Ka sa Piling ng Iba," Aegis's "Luha" and the late Ric Segreto's "Kahit Konting Pagtingin."

GUEST PERFORMERS. Sharing the love were Sharon's guest performers, including Ai-Ai delas Alas, Pokwang, Ogie Alcasid, Piolo Pascual, Kuh Ledesma, Zsa Zsa Padilla and Sarah Geronimo.

Comediennes Ai-Ai delas Alas and Pokwang performed hilarious versions of Ric Segreto's "Kahit Konting Pagtingin" and Sharon Cuneta's "Mr. DJ" like a Lady Gaga version.

Ogie Alcasid helped Sharon sing his OPM hits, including "Bakit Ngayon Ka Lang?" and "Ikaw Lamang." Sharon announced just seconds before that Ogie is set to marry Regine Velasquez soon, and everyone felt Ogie's sincerity in his performance.

Equally touching was Piolo Pascual's duet with Sharon in the songs "Himala" by Eraserheads and "Imposible" by Sharon's daughte KC Concepcion. Piolo is KC's rumored boyfriend.

Kuh Ledesma and Zsa Zsa Padilla helped Sharon render perfectly the masterpieces of Maestro Ryan Cayabyab. They sang the songs "Ang Ating Musika," "Kahit Ika'y Panaginip Lang," and "Minsan ang Minahal ay Ako."

Lastly, Sarah Geronimo and Sharon sang a duet of Joey Albert's "Tell Me" and Lani Misalucha's "Bukas na Lang Kita Mamahalin." Sarah looked overwhelmed just standing beside Sharon, one of the judges who made her a star years ago in IBC-13's Star for a Night.

THE FINALE. To end the concert, Sharon sang her "favorite bituin songs," "Bituing Walang Ningning" and "Pangarap na Bituin."

The Megastar's last song, "Habang May Buhay," emphasized that, indeed, Mega Drama was a concert made out of Sharon's love for everyone.

"Habang may buhay, habang may buhay

Hangga't ang dugo ko ay dumadaloy

Sa 'yo lamang iaalay

Ang aking buhay, ang aking buhay

Sa 'yo ibibigay."
