Model turned actress Lou Sison is nothing like the exhausted office worker she portrayed in a vitamin supplement television commercial.
In person, the pretty newcomer is brimming with energy and one can't help but feel her excitement as she embarks on an acting career courtesy of GMA-7's newest primetime series Beauty Queen. The project is an affirmation that she has made a successful transition from three-minute gigs to the big time.
Lou's foray into show business, after four years of doing commercials, was encouraged by her good friend, former actress Bianca Lapuz. Although the lure of acting took her longer to catch up, Lou recalls her role-playing when she was kid.
"When I was four years old uma-acting-acting na kami ng kuya ko, tapos gumagawa kami ng scene kunwari. Feeling ko nandun na siya [acting], although mas gusto ko mag-modelo dati. But after a few years, parang you want something new naman," said Lou, who also appears in the morning talk show Love ni Mister, Love ni Misis.
Lou finds the drama genre challenging, although close friends feel she's better suited for comedy.
"Ang tingin ng tao sa akin mag-komedyante daw ako," laughed Lou. "Ako naman, game ako kahit anong roles. Basta kailangan ko ng workshop muna. Pero willing naman ako kasi matagal ko na ding gustong mag-focus sa acting talaga."
Lou has no less than seasoned actress and director Gina Alajar as her mentor: "Enjoy! Sobra, kasi parang nasa class ka and natututo ka and si Direk Gina mahilig siyang mag-challenge, e. Sasabihin niya 'Kulang! Kulang!' kahit na parang feeling mo binigay mo na ang lahat. Maganda 'yong you're being challenged by your director kasi hindi lang 'yon kung ano ang meron ka, alam mong may mailalabas ka pa."
It is still too early for Lou to make some necessary lifestyle adjustments now that she's a celebrity. But the 22-year-old actress is also aware that it's just a matter of time before her routine completely changes to accommodate the demands of her chosen profession.
"I'm in the process of parang getting ready to go there," confessed Lou. "Kasi pinagsasabihan na ko na 'O, bawal ka na gumimik,' 'Bawal na ang ganyan...' So pine-prepare ko na ang sarili ko kasi alam ko naman 'yong pinapasok ko ngayon."
Lou's previous appearances in commercials and current stint in Love ni Mister, Love ni Misis, have actually made her recognizable to the public, and she feels good when dealing with excited fans.
"I get 'Uy, si ganyan!' Pero more on dahil sa commercials like 'Uy, si lola ng Stresstabs!' Tapos since I joined Love ni Mister, Love ni Misis, tawag naman nila sa akin 'Uy, si kumare!' I get flattered kasi napapansin nila ko and nakakataba ng puso pag naaalala ka nila and may gustong magpa-picture sa iyo, kaya ako naman, 'Sige! Game! Picture tayo,'" smiled Lou.
