Regine Velasquez was laughing non-stop while Ai-Ai delas Alas was impersonating her at the concert of boyfriend Ogie Alcasid and Maestro Ryan Cayabyab, The O.C. at the P.I.C.C., at the Philippine International Convention Center in Pasay City last Friday, October 8.
The Comedy Concert Queen came on stage wearing a wedding gown and pretended to be Asia's Songbird, who will be marrying Ogie in December. Ai-Ai tried hard to reach Regine's high notes in songs like "Dadalhin," "Narito Ako," and "Kung Maibabalik Ko Lang."
"I was dying... Muntik na nga akong maglupasay doon [sa sahig] sa kakatawa! Actually, ilang beses ko na nakita 'yan, e, pero natatawa pa rin talaga ako. She's so hilarious, as usual," said Regine when PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) asked her about Ai-Ai's guest appearance in the concert.
Regine said that even if she has seen Ai-Ai using this gimmick in her previous shows, "Natatawa talaga ako, hindi ko maeksplika ang sarili ko. Basta ang alam ko, tawang-tawa talaga ako, hindi ko siya kinakaya!
"Actually, kapag gumagawa kami ng show before, kapag ginagaya niya ako, kinakanta ko nang live 'yong part na dapat ako na. Kailangan hindi ko siya pinapanood para makapag-concentrate ako kasi talagang hindi ko siya kinakaya."
Ai-Ai's guest appearance on the concert was an opportunity for her to promote her 20th anniversary concert at the Araneta Coliseum this November. Not surprisingly, Ai-Ai will have Regine as one of her special guests.
Regine will also be part of Pokwang's first major concert, Endangered Species, on October 15, 16, and 17 at the Aliw Theater in Pasay City
Asia's Songbird said she's been volunteering herself to perform as a guest in her friends' concerts because she misses singing onstage. Her last concert, Divas 4 Divas, with fellow singers Kuh Ledesma, Pops Fernandez, and Zsa Zsa Padilla was held in 2008.
"Parang ako na yata ang nagrerekomenda minsan. Pati yata 'yong kay Erik [Santos], ako na ang nagrekomenda sa sarili ko na i-guest nila ako, para kumanta ako. Kasi, hindi ako kumakanta, e. Walang nagbibigay sa akin ng show!" she said with a laugh.
Is the weekly Party Pilipinas not enough for her to practice her singing?
"But it's nice to do a concert. I miss it. I miss it a lot," Regine said.
Will there be plans for her to stage a concert soon?
"E, kasi busy ako sa wedding!" Regine laughed.
In the interview, Regine confirmed that the venue for their wedding has been changed.
"Wala, hindi na [sa original venue]. Sa iba na kami, iba na talaga," was all she said.
