More than a week since its launch last February 12, there are two schools of thought on the viewers' perception of Happy, Yipee, Yehey.
Of the 506 PEPsters polled, 36.96% say, "Mukhang masaya!"
Reviving the Randy Santiago-John Estrada tandem is like recapturing the viewers' good ol' days with the defunct Masayang Tanghali Bayan minus Willie Revillame.
If, back then, the controversial Willing Willie host was your reason for not following ABS-CBN's noontime show, then this might take your fancy.
In an interview, Randy makes an appeal to the viewers, "Bigyan niyo lang kami ng chance na gawin iyon...."
Meanwhile, merging the hosting prowess of Toni Gonzaga and Mariel Rodriguez—who are both products of noontime shows Eat Bulaga! and Wowowee, respectively—is bound to give the show some flavor and spice.
The two have innate comic timing, which will naturally come out if they veer away from their guide spiels.
On the other hand, 32.32% of the respondents answer, "Hindi ganoong kasigla."
It could be that there's nothing new about the format. As some TV critics have pointed out, most of the games are "recycled."
Randy tells PEP the rationale, which is to make things simpler for the contestants. But the viewers will always welcome fresh ideas, which can carve out a unique identity for the show.
The undecided make up 30.71%. "Masyado pang maaga para sabihin," they think.
And the challenge for the new show is to give these people a compelling reason to switch.
It won't be that easy beating the odds. But it won't be hard either to crack the formula. Take it from the title—give them alternative fun like no other, and they will go "happy, yipee, yehey!"
