"I may be Brazilian—but as someone working here in the Philippines, I am always respectful of its laws and policies," says Daiana Menezes about the tax evasion cases filed against her by the Bureau of Internal Revenue today, April 7.

Brazilian model-TV personality Daiana Menezes denies accusation of the Bureau of Internal Revenue that she did not file any returns for taxable years 2007 and 2009.

Based on the report published on ABS-CBN News earlier, the BIR filed a tax evasion charges against the Eat Bulaga! host before the Department of Justice (DoJ) today, April 7.

"Based from available documents gathered by the BIR, Ms. Menezes received a total taxable income of P2,659,668.10 in 2007 to 2009 from various sources including Baliwag Lechon Manok, Inc., TAPE, Inc. and GMA Network but failed to pay any tax," the BIR stated in a press release.

According to this document, Daiana's estimated aggregate tax liabilities amounted to P983,658.07 for deficiency income and percentage taxes covering taxable years 2007 to 2009, inclusive of surcharges and interests.

The BIR also added that Daiana registered with the bureau just for the purpose of securing a Taxpayer Identification Number, which is one of the requirements in all applications for government permits, license, clearance, and other official paper or documents.

"Under such registration, her tax type is 'not taxable,' which will show the willfulness of her act of evading payment of taxes," the BIR explained.

The BIR also said, "By reason of her deliberate and repeated non-declaration of revenues or income for taxable years 2007 to 2009 and her failure to pay the income taxes and percentage taxes due thereon, Ms. Menezes failed to pay the correct amount of taxes which resulted in the deprivation of taxes due to the government."

According to ABS-CBN News, Daiana's case is the 38th filed under the BIR's "Run After Tax Evaders" program.

"EVERYTHING IS BEING TAKEN CARE OF." Meanwhile, in a text message sent to PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) at around 1:40 p.m. today, Daiana stated:

"The issue about my taxes is being addressed and I have been paying my taxes religiously. In fact, I am bound to pay before April 15 deadline. I may be Brazilian—but as someone working here in the Philippines, I am always respectful of its laws and policies."
