GMA-7 gave a warm welcome for their newest Kapuso star who just signed a one year contract with GMA Network yesterday, August 10, at the 17th floor of GMA Network Center in Timog—YouTube singing sensation Leana.
Eight-year-old Leana was known for her own version of Jessie J's "Price Tag."
After her contract signing, PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) got a chance to interview Leana.
Leana was asked who's the person uploading her videos in YouTube.
"'Yong daddy ko po."
When did she start to sing?
"Since when I was three years old."
What's the first song she memorized?
"'If You Ask Me To' by MYMP."
How long is the contract?
Her Mommy Jing answered for her daughter, "Basically one year."
What's the plan of GMA-7 for her?
"A…basically meron siyang Party Pilipinas."
Is she a "biritera" like other singers?
"She's not really a biritera, more on a pop singer."
When did you discover that Leana has an amazing singing voice?
"Kasi no'ng three pa lang siya alam namin meron talaga, e. It's like a combination of all of our dreams already.
"I used to be a singer in a band and then my husband is a bass player."
Then Leana interrupted and added, "My lolo is a part of Rainmakers, si Joel Macanaya."
Rainmakers is a singing group composed of Joel Macanaya, Joseph Lansang, Ramon Villanueva, and Jojo Grospe. It was in the thick of the rainy season of 1969 when the Rainmakers was formed and named after the prevailing weather.
Her mother added that Leana really wanted to be a singer since she was a kid and that she didn't take any training or voice lessons.
"Kumakanta lang siya sa bahay everyday."

"Justin Bieber," Leana giggled.
Leana's Mommy Jing added that her daughter is in Grade 3 that's why she won't be acting yet and will focus on her singing career first because she needs to maintain her grades in school.
