A lot of young stars are now starting to make their way up in the world of showbiz. Be it acting, dancing, modeling or singing— they all have their own way of making noise in the industry.
Earlier this year, AJ Muhlach, the half-brother of the matinee idol Aga Muhlach, tried his luck in showbiz through the all-boys group XLR8 which performs regularly on GMA-7's Sunday noontime show, Party Pilipinas.
Soon followed the teen series, Bagets: Just Got Lucky, where he plays the role of Ace Delgado.
Now, another young blood from the Muhlach clan will try her luck in this industry— Yssa Alvarez.
Yssa was introduced by Viva Talent Agency as one of its newest recording artists.
Pep.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) and other entertainment press interviewed Yssa last August 18, at the Viva Office in Tektite Building, Madaluyong City.
Grandfather Cheng Muhlach convinced the 13-year-old to try her chance in showbiz via a recording contract with the said talent agency.
"Dinala po ako actually first ng lolo ko dito kay Boss Vic [del Rosario], nag-audtion po ako, then after few days nag-sign po ako ng contract," Yssa narrated.
IN THE BLOOD. Now 15, Yssa is the eldest of the three daughters of Bong Alvarez and Almira Muhlach.
She's currently a fourth year high school student at the International Christian School in Mandaluyong City.
The fact that she started young in showbiz, made it hard to convince her parents to let her pursue her career.
"Siyempre nahirapan po ako," she admits.
"Kasi they really didn't want me to go into show business, e, kasi studies ko nga po maaapektuhan.
"Pero, I told them na I'm not gonna compromise it. So, they allowed me and told me that I'm gonna be in school."
She entered the industry via recording an album, but onlookers wonder if she plans to try acting as well.
In fact, several of her kin entered showbiz through their talent in acting: Arlene Muhlach, Aga Muhlach, Liezel Martinez, and Niño Muhlach.
"Acting po kasi, of course if there's an opportunity I want to take it," she asserts.
"Kaya lang po kasi nag-aaral po ako. For now po talaga singing muna.
"Pero if halimbawa acting, tapos kung puwede naman mag-cope with schedule kasi fourth year high school naman na ko. Kasi my mom wants na makatapos ako ng high school."
PROVING HER TALENT. Yssa admits that there's pressure on her part, knowing that she's from a well-known showbiz family.
"Of course, may pressure sa akin na Muhlach ako," she affirms.
"Nakaka-pressure po siya, pero I guess it's also an honor to be a Muhlach. Kasi, at least because of that pressure I want to do better and to strive harder po."
She knows that being a Muhlach could be an advantage to her career. But she won't let this name define her— that she'll only be successful in this industry because of her clan.
"I think it will help me naman po. Kasi, sometimes when they tell me, 'kaya mo 'yan, kinaya ng tito mo, e, kinaya ng mommy mo.' Parang, it's an encouragement din, e.
"Well, ok lang na sabihin nila na, 'kaya lang nakapasok 'yan ng showbiz dahil anak 'yan ni ano.' Well, wala naman akong ginagawa, sinabi ko lang na Muhlach ako, di ba?
"I'm not bragging it, but yet I'm here na, I'm working. I think, it's not just because na parang, 'ay, Muhlach ako, tapos lumalakad-lakad ako kasi Muhlach ako,' hindi naman yun ang point ko for being here."
But, if the people do start seeing her that way, Yssa is determined to prove them wrong.
With conviction she said, "I think I can reach so many things like the fact that I really want to achieve my goals.
"I'll prove them wrong by showing them what I can do, [and] what I've got."
