Kris Aquino doesn't mind being called a "stage mother" as long as the welfare of her son, Baby James Yap, comes first.
Four-year-old Bimby is a contract artist of Star Magic, ABS-CBN's talent management arm.
He has already appeared in several commercials, some with his mom and some on his own. He has yet to be given his own TV show.
PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) caught up with the Queen of All Media at the Olay Total Effects event at the Mandarin Hotel in Makati City on September 8 where she talked about her career plans for her son.
She says Bimby has a long-term contract with Star Magic until 2013.
"Pero he's in school right now and he's doing so well. So, ang trabaho niya is only during weekends and we space it na in a month, one TVC [television commercial] or at most, one TVC and one photo shoot."
Kris says she only wants Bimby to do commercials for now as she does not want his showbiz work to interfere with his studies.
Her son is in still pre-school and already, he expresses himself well, something that he probably got from his mom.
"With a mother like me naman, siyempre," Kris quipped.
BIMBY ON GOIN' BULILIT. There have been talks that Bimby may join the cast of the Sunday comedy show, Goin' Bulilit, but Kris says she decided not to accept the offer.
"Ang tagal na kaming niyaya [to do Goin' Bulilit], ako yung tumatanggi kasi gusto ko solo niya.
"O, 'di ba? Ang nanay, stage mother talaga.
"Hindi, kasi ang sinabi ko actually, talaga was that my dream for him is—but it's so scary, but super bagay sa kanya—yung Kids Say The Darndest Things."
Kids Say The Darndest Things is an American TV show in the '90s hosted by comedian Bill Cosby.
In the show, Bill would ask kids, aged 3 to 8 years old, questions on various topics and they would respond in the cutest and, well, darndest ways.
"Pero sa sitwasyon namin ngayon, hindi pwede, kasi baka kung anu-anong masabi," Kris says, adding that she and Bimby are technically the "first family" of President Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino III.
"Pero bagay na bagay because yung napapanood niyo sa commercials, that innate curiosity, hindi mo pwedeng artehin 'yon. Gano'n siya talaga sa totoong buhay."
Kris says Bimby is very curious and intuitive at his age and, just like his mom, is vocal about his feelings.
"Last night lang, I don't know paano namin napag-usapan 'yon, sinabi ko sa kanya 'Bimby, are you getting married?' Sabi niya, 'No, Mama.'
"'Because I love you and then you'll get sad.' Sabi ko, 'Ay, sasabihin ko 'yan sa interview bukas para 'pag ano, darating ang panahon ipa-playback ko 'yon.'"
