Instead of becoming an actor, Pinoy Big Brother teen housemate Robi Domingo, decided to become a TV host.
A few months after the PBB Teen Edition Plus, the first runner-up housemate auditioned in the annual MYX VJ Search in 2008.
He emerged as one of four new video jocks of ABS-CBN's music channel MYX.
Robi explained his decision: "Ewan ko, ha... parang bakit pa ako makikipag-kumpetensya sa iba. Meron naman tayong Gerald Anderson, meron naman tayong Enchong Dee.
"E, parang wala pang nagseseryoso talaga sa henerasyon na gustong makilala as a host," Robi told PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) in an interview recently.
JUGGLING WORK AND STUDIES. The 22-year-old thought hosting, rather than acting, would make it easier for him to focus on his studies.
Robi is a senior at the Ateneo de Manila University.
Combining studies and showbiz, he said, is "sobrang mahirap."
He added, "When you're on the set, you think about your academics, e.
"Like, I was doing I Dare You, I was thinking kung ano kaya ang mangyayari bukas sa school, kung may test ba o wala. Kaya nag-aaral ako during breaks.
"Kung nasa school naman ako, iisipin ko naman, 'Ano kayang spiel ang maganda para sa kantang ganito?'"
Robi, however, is determined to finish his studies.
"Sabi ko talaga sa sarili ko, I would never stop my schooling, not for anything, not for showbiz."
DEVELOPING SKILLS. Working as a VJ on MYX for a few years helped the young Kapamilya celebrity develop not only his hosting skills, but his social skills as well.
"I think MYX helped build up my character, improved my skills as a host and made me a more sociable person."
He listed a few more positive changes.
"Like, the way I talk, dati utal-utal. I swear to God, hindi ako nakakatapos ng isang sentence without stuttering.
"Tapos, 'yong confidence ko medyo tumaas. I talk to people. Alam ko na kung saan ako, hindi katulad dati na hihintayin ko ['yong subject].
"Dati wala akong initiative, e. Hihintayin ko 'yong sasabihin mo bago ako magsalita."
Although Robi has become better at his job, the young host admitted he still has a lot to learn.
"You don't read about it, e. You learn through experience," he said.
"What I do is observe the likes of Luis Manzano when he's hosting Pilipinas Got Talent.
"When I switch channels, tinitingnan ko kung paano mag-host sina Vic Sotto, Joey de Leon.
"I think 'yon ang paraan para matuto, e.
"Sa radyo naman, I tune in to 89.9 or 93.1, tapos pakinggan mo sina Chico and Delamar or si Mo Twister. Gano'n talaga ang paraan kung paano mag-develop ng pagho-host.
Every host has his own style, what is Robi's trademark?
"Ako, inaamin ko na madalas wala naman akong sense, e. Pero kaya kong mag-intellectual na medyo patawa.
"Light lang. Hindi ako parang Tito Boy na seryoso talaga."
DREAM INTERVIEWEE. On MYX, Robi has interviewed several music artists. On ASAP Chill Out Lounge, he was able to talk to actors and actresses.
"At least, nate-train na ako [kung paano] makausap 'yong mga tao like sina Vice Ganda, Lorna Tolentino, and Shamcey Supsup."
When asked about his dream interview, he paused for a moment and said, "Ang dream ko talaga is to interview PNoy.
"Kasi, people would always ask him political questions or questions about our country.
"Ako, I would like to ask him personal questions.
"Kasi, medyo wala pa tayong idea kung sino si PNoy, di ba?
"Alam lang natin na anak siya ni Ninoy and Cory Aquino, kapatid niya si Kris, presidente siya ng Pilipinas. Pero sino ba talaga si Noynoy as person?"
He also wants to meet his idol, the award-winning TV host, Ryan Agoncillo.
"Gusto ko siyang makausap; I will ask him, 'Ano ba ang ginawa mo before?'"
Robi knows he has a long way to go before he attains the status of Billy Crawford or Luis Manzano.
"Sabi nga ni Luis, marami pa akong kakaining limpak na limpak na bigas.
"Kahit na joke 'yon, sineseryoso ko 'yon. I think that would push me to be just like [Luis] or be even better."
