Urban chic goes beyond denim jeans

Miss Universe 2011 first runner up Shamcey Supsup (left) and Philippine Azkals player Anton del Rosario (right) graced the fun fashion show featuring the latest in chic urban wear.

The whirlwind of activities from the recently-concluded Philippine Fashion Week presentations may be over, but the aftershock has left us numb with excitement.

While we're currently enjoying our faux winter fashion (boots, jackets, scarves, etc.) this cold season, we just can't wait for summer to come back!

Many thanks to jeans brand Lee for showing us fun and chic urban options to choose from for next year.

During their showcase last October 28 at the SM Mall Of Asia, the brand presented its latest collection of products that included a variety of fashionable garments (read: not just jeans).

The clothes were designed by a group of college undergrads who participated in the brand's student design competition.

They culled inspiration from the streets of the world's most happening cities.

Paris, Tokyo, London, New York, Sydney, and Manila became the mood boards of the 12 designer finalists.

Graded tones, pop colors, quirky cuts, and geometric patterns ruled the runway.

The classic jeans styles were given new twists with more unique washes of navy, black, brown and grey. There's also the cool new two-tone design.

An array of funky tops was also made available for men.

Among the biggest hits were the polo shirts with contrast collars; cotton button-ups in checks, plaid, and abstract patterns; and of course, the classic round and V-necks.

For the ladies, the new catalog went a step beyond the traditional jeans and jackets.

Get excited as you dress up in colored denim skirts and dresses.

Yes, you read that right.

Using stretch denim fabrics in various colors, the designers were able to make cute tutus and full-blown mini-dresses perfect for after hours parties.

Accent pieces such as cardigans and vests are now available as well.

Over the years, urban wear has always relied on denim jeans for instant chic appeal.

Everyone practically owns a pair, so the trick to standing out this summer is to get recklessly audacious with these new artistic approaches to a classic.
