Julia Montes wants to be known “as Julia lang talaga…hindi bilang showbiz person”

Julia Montes says the roles she portrays only show a part of her real self. “Masasabi kong iba kasi ‘yong totoong ako,” she says.

She is one of the brightest stars of her generation.

After Julia Montes’s successful portrayal of the antagonistic character in Mara Clara, the Filipina-German teen star is now making waves as Katarina Alcantara Montenegro in Walang Hanggan.

But she seems unperturbed by the trappings of the limelight.

The lola’s girl, in fact, considers the recent Star Magic-sponsored birthday press conference—where this interview was held—her “most unforgettable moment.”

Indeed, a lot has changed since the former child star was given her much-awaited break.

But when asked about the most glaring “pagbabago” in her life, her answer has nothing to do with her brand new house or popularity.

Speaking of dreams, the 17-year-old actress knows that she still has a long way to go.

“Marami pa kong gusto maabot. Gusto kong gumawa ng sarili kong name. Gusto kong magkaroon ng award din,” the present screen partner of Coco Martin remarks.

And what’s her dream role?

She’s been in the business for about eight years, and so far, the star that tops her “nicest people” list is Bea Alonzo.

Julia relates, “Kasi masasabi kong since nag-start ako, wala pa akong pangalan, ganun siya.

“Nung meron siyang show na Ikaw Ang Lahat Sa Akin, ako yung young Bea doon.

Who are her favorite actresses?

She mentions “Claudine Barretto, Dawn Zulueta…” and again, “Bea Alonzo.”

Love doesn’t figure in her plans yet, but she has a crush: “John Lloyd Cruz!”

What’s holding her back from falling in love?

Getting hurt is not her primary reason.

Her greatest fear, she says, is losing “mga pinaghirapan ko.”

She resumes, “Hindi natin maiiwasan na may nawawala talagang artista, ayokong mangyari sa akin.

“Kaya gusto ko talagang gumawa ng tatak na kahit wala man ako, merong maaalala yung tao sa ‘kin, in a good way.”

Lastly, how does she want people to remember her?

“As Julia lang talaga… hindi bilang showbiz person.”
