The search is over! Century Tuna has found two new Superbods that will become their ambassadors for health and fitness.
Former US marine John Spainhour and volleyball player Monika Sta. Maria responded to Anne Curtis and Derek Ramsay’s call, “We Want You,” by beating the other 18 finalists of Century Tuna Superbods 2012: Salute to Sexy.
The series of challenges for the fourth Century Tuna Superbods was held in Boracay Island last Saturday, April 14
Following its military theme, Century Tuna made these challenges more difficult this year.
Century Canning Corporation Vice President and General Manager, Greg Banzon, told PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal), “We made them do challenges in land, air, and sea.
“So, medyo cute at the same time, medyo difficult.
“I think it brought out the best in our candidates.”
INTRODUCING THE SUPERBODS FINALISTS. Hundreds of health buffs from different region aspired to become the next Century Tuna endorsers, but only 20 of them were chosen to fly to one of the hottest summer destinations in the country.
Aside from John and Monika, other chosen contestants who battle it out for the title were sports buffs like football player Charlie Sutcliffe, 23; basketball player AJ Hanson, 20; extreme sports enthusiast Azel Shane Smith, 20; and surfer and wakeboarder Janet Emmrich, 20.
Familiar faces in modeling industry also joined the search like Janelle Olafson, 22; June Macasaet, 28; JC Rezabeck, 21; Kenneth Angelo Loceo, 20; Princess Armillos, 22; Cris Lomotan, 27; and Kate Goza, 23.
Medical student Martin Flores, 23; registered nurse Ladylyn Riva, 24; and nursing graduate Arianne Real, 22, also tried their luck to this contest for health and fitness.
Even businessmen like King Alcarrion, 24, and JP Yap, 25; arts student Jayanne Aldanese, 19; and Mary Claire Dodo, 19, did everything they can to prove that they’re worthy to become the new image models of Century Tuna.
WELCOME PARTY. Before the grueling challenges, April 13, the 20 finalists dressed up and strutted with their sexy bodies in a mini fashion show during the White Party held at Sun Villas Resort.
Each contestant was then introduced to brand executives, partners, and judges. They also had the chance to chat with invited media guests.
Meanwhile, Century Tuna endorsers Derek and Aljur Abrenica led the celebrities who graced the events.
PEP also spotted “Boys’ Night Out” DJ Tony Toni, motivational speaker Anthony Pangilinan, 2009 Superbods male winner Van Victor Leano with actress Regine Angeles, and former sexy actress Nanette Medved.
It was a fun night but the Superbods finalists avoided to stay up late because they had to recharge for the tough obstacle courses prepared for the physical challenge.
DAY CHALLENGE. The following morning, April 14, perfect sunny weather greeted the Superbods hopefuls that gave them energy for the series of tests ahead.
To start the day right, the group participated in the beach clean up drive. Each finalist was asked to pick up litter within the perimeter of the game venue before the race proper.
After an hour, the 20 finalists gathered in front of Astoria Boracay Hotel where they were divided into 10 pairs.
These pairs passed through the military-like challenges while they were being supervised by members of Boracay Paddlers.
Starting off at Station 1, the contestants ignored the burning heat of the sun and raced to Plazoleta in Station 2 for the “Ground Siege.” Here, each team had to hop and climb the obstacles to get to the next round.
Their patience was tested during the “Load the Ammo” challenge, which required them to inflate four beach balls. Since some of the pumps did not work, teams had to find an alternative way to finish all the balls to proceed to the “Water Challenge.”
At this point, each pair used up all their strength in paddling a kayak to be ahead of the game.
Lastly, in the “Set Up Your Field Camp” challenge each pair set up their tent as fast they could to get the materials they need for their flags.
Mary Claire and John of Brown team were the first to create a pyramid using Century Tuna canned goods and put up their flag firmly on the shore.
Red pair of June and Azel Shane closely finished at second place.
THE FINAL TEST. After enduring the heat and challenges, Salute to Sexy grand finalists had all the rest of the afternoon to prepare for the Pageant Night held at Astoria Beachfront in the evening.
Celebrity endorsers of Century Tuna Anne and Derek spiced up the mood of the event that evening when they presented the 20 Superbods finalists to the guests and audience.
Meanwhile, event host, DJ-model Menchu Antigua, introduced herself to the contestants as their drill sergeant.
During the show, the contestants once again flaunted their well sculpted beach bodies as they walked on the ramp wearing Hang Ten swimwear.
Their modeling abilities were also examined for the last time when they went back to showcase the Resort Wear creations of one of the judges, popular fashion designer Charina Sarte.
The highlight of the pageant happened when the contestants’ personality and intelligence were tested in the question-and-answer segment.
Hard and tricky questions came from the panel of judges composed of Century Canning Corp. executive Mr. Banzon, fashion designers Rajo Laurel and Charina, Cosmopolitan editor-in-chief Myrza Sison, fashion blogger Jenni Epperson, TV personality Tim Yap, and PC&V President and Creative Director Ariel Comia.
