Shaina Magdayao is sporting a brand new ‘do.
From a previously long and straight style, her hair is much shorter now and made funkier with side-swept bangs.
Also, from jet-black, she has changed its color to a light brown shade with streaks of blonde highlights.
In an interview with PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal), held August 21 at Club Filipino in Greenhills, San Juan, she said that her new look is an offshoot of her role in Kung Ako’y Iiwan Mo.
This afternoon series on ABS-CBN tells the story of Sarah (Shaina), a once apprehensive woman, who is now stronger and tougher after going through rough trials in life.
Shaina recounts, “They wanted me lang talaga to change my look since nagmo-move on na si Sarah sa buhay niya, she’s a new Sarah now.
“Pero, gusto nila ng something na bagay din sa akin, so sabi ko, ‘Parang matagal na ‘kong hindi nagba-bangs,’ so nilagyan nila ‘ko ng bangs.
“And then, I also said, ‘I want it shorter,’ kasi you can always naman put extensions kung gusto mong mahaba ang hair.
“Then the color, surprisingly, the color suits me and maraming pumapansin doon sa buhok ko.”
YSTILO SALON. Shaina's new look was crafted by the stylists of Ystilo Salon, a 14-year-old business, which she now co-owns with her sisters Sheila, Sheryl, and Sharon—a.k.a. Vina Morales.
In the past, she would only participate as the salon’s celebrity endorser.
But now, she has become more hands-on in doing marketing work alongside sister Vina.
She says beauty and pampering are among her passions, but how did it all start for her?
“It started with ano talaga, kasi apat na babae kami, e.
“So, ano ba’ng ginagawa ng mga babae kundi gusto magpamasahe, gusto ng… of course, they want to take care of themselves.
“Doon talaga nagsimula lahat iyon, but sa business, ngayon pa lang ako nagsisimula.”
Shaina finds that venturing into the family business has become more beneficial for her.
As an actress and a celebrity, it has become part of her job description to always look good, especially when appearing in public.
“Definitely, sobra siyang naging useful sa akin dahil sino ba naman ang babaeng ayaw na magmukhang maayos at maganda lagi, ‘di ba?”
So in order to maintain her good looks, Shaina gets weekly hot oil treatments for her hair, and pampering spa services for her hands and feet.
JELLY NAILS. Besides the usual manicure, pedicure, and foot spa, Shaina is currently obsessed with putting jelly polish on her nails.
Also known as gel or UV nails, she prefers this new technology over the regular nail polish.
“Mas tumatagal siya. Like, ako na I’m very busy, I don’t get to go to the salon that much for nails.
“Ito, parang nagla-last siya mga two weeks. Mas matagal siya, stronger than the usual manicure and pedicure.
“Kasi pag mani, pedi, parang the next day meron na agad chip. Itong UV nails, wala.
“It’s very, very strong at magaganda pa iyong colors. Mas hiyang pa siya sa nails mo, and it won’t destroy [your nails,] hindi siya magiging yellowish.
“So, ito ang obsession ko ngayon kasi ang kuko ko, I want it always to be clean and tidy.”
