Despite having worn many fashionable clothes, former fashion model turned actor, Mikael Daez, still goes back to the basics.

In an interview with PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal), the Sana Ay Ikaw Na Nga lead actor described his personal style as: "Laid back and simple."

To give us a picture of his fashion sense, he gave us this detailed description:

For his usual top: "Very basic ako. Kung pumasok ako sa store, hindi ako kukuha ng T-shirt na may stripes, checkered or kung anu-ano pang mga sulat.

"Kung makikita mo ang closet ko, ma-V-neck ako. Lahat ng plain V-neck shirtsmay black, blue, white, dark blue, light blue, yellow green, kahit pink nga mayroon ako.

"Sa long sleeves, kumpleto, different kinds. May glossy, may matte, may linen."

For his bottom, Mikael prefers denims.

He added,"I like denims. Kailangan 'yong tela very soft. I don't like the jeans na makapal kasi medyo mainit. Medyo manipis ang gusto ko kasi pwedeng umupo at hindi na kailangang ayusin kapag umupo ka."

When it comes to shoes, Mikael is comfortable wearing mid-cut boots.

If Mikael needs to be more fashionable, he would just pull a jacket from his closet.

"Siguro ang pinaka-flare na is 'yong mga jackets," he said.

"I do have some leather jackets, sportswear, and blazers. Patong lang.

"I mean, from that collection, ang dami nang magagawa, e."

"I'M A FASHION BUG." Mikael credits his knowledge about fashion to his previous career.

"Actually, doon ko lang din nakuha," he related.

"Parang marami kang tips [na makukuha] kapag nagmo-model ka talaga, e."

Aside from what he got from modelling, Mikael also observes people around and reads magazines to be updated with the latest trends.

"When you look at the magazine, marami ka nang makukuha, e.

"Makakakuha ka na ng idea na, 'Ah, pwede 'to, palitan lang ng kulay. Parang bagay 'to, bagay 'to.'

"With people, I see na alam kong maganda 'yong peg.

"Kahit hindi ko type 'yong style nila, 'yong pairing nila nung gamit.

"Kunwari, 'yong jackets tapos may isa pang jacket, parang layer, pwede pala 'yon."

DRESSING UP IN STYLE. As a celebrity, Mikael admits there's a pressure to always dress up when going out in public.

"Hindi lang bilang endorser," he said.

"Well, I am endorsing GMA-7. I am a GMA-7 artist, I have a contract with them, I go out on TV for them so, it's part of the job.

"I mean, it's part of the job to always look decent, to dress up so that I can carry myself, di ba?

"Kasi, parang ang dami nilang in-invest sa amin."

Mikael understands this kind of responsibility.

"I don't think it's too much to ask to look good for them or to dress up for them. Okay lang naman 'yon," he said.

It's not also a problem for him since he is a self-confessed "fashion bug."

Even before he joined show business, Mikael was already conscious about his fashion style

"Mas elegante lang siguro akong magbihis ngayon," he laughed.

"Siyempre, dati boardshorts, slippers, and loose T-shirt pwede na.

"But I was relatively fashion bug. Noong lumalabas dati, kahit noong college, I always like looking good and dressing up nicely.

"So na-carry over ko lang whenever I go out naman, na-carry over ko lang ang habit ko na 'yon."

Generally, Mikael said it's not really hard to dress up in style.

He just have this simple reminder: If you're having a hard time, stick to the basics."

Then, he explained: "One if the reasons kaya hindi ako lumalabas sa basics kasi mahirap nga naman mag-mix and match.

"Unless fashionista ka or fashion blogger ka, baka hindi mo talaga mapu-pull off 'yan.

"So, if you wanna be sure, always consult your friends, ask them and they will give you good advice."

In the conclusion, he stressed, "Kung hindi ka sure, stick to the basics kasi walang kokontra diyan."
