On October 9, English singer-songwriter James Morrison will bring The Awakening World Tour to its last Asian stop at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
The 28-year-old BRIT award winner is currently promoting his third and latest album, The Awakening—which critics says is his best yet.
Known for his past hits "You Give Me Something," "Wonderful World," and "The Pieces Don’t Fit Anymore," this new album is said to better showcase Morrison's big voice.
His knack for contemporary soul has made experts compare him to music legends such as Stevie Wonder and Paul Young.
His songwriting has also grown more mature in this record, with pieces depicting his personal life and raw emotions.
One example is the song "Up," a duet with British pop sensation Jessie J.
It is actually a reflection of his strained relationship with his father, who passed away after battling alcoholism and depression.
While the album is slathered with emotional lyrics, Morrison says they are not necessarily “downer songs.”
“Yes, some of it’s about dealing with sh*t, but it’s also about looking at yourself and what you’ve got around you, weighing stuff up to keep yourself thinking positively.
"I think a lot of people will be able to relate to that because that’s what life’s like, what relationships are like.”
Morrison also personally recognizes how much he has improved as a musician over the years.
He says, “My first two albums felt like practice shots.
“Now, I’ve graduated. In many ways, this feels like my first proper album.”
