(Clockwise) Nikki Gil, Saida Diola, Jackie Rice, and Yeng Constantino reveal what gift they would like to receive this Valentine’s Day.

Times have changed, indeed.

In olden days, lads fetched water from the well to serve and impress a maiden’s family.

Today, guys would send “pick-up lines” a la Boy Pick-up (Ogie Alcasid’s character in Bubble Gang) to earn a lady's “yes.”

This Valentine’s Day, PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) asks: Ano ba talaga ang gusto ng girls?

Nikki Gil said she would like to receive an “expressive gift,” meaning, “I like words, I like reading, [and] I like expressing myself.

“Personalized... maybe, because flowers and chocolates, puwede ko naman bilhan ang sarili ko no’n, [and] after a few days, lanta na ‘yon!

“Although I appreciate flowers every once in a while, but to steer away from the norm, maybe I wouldn’t mind receiving just a card— I’m that kind of girl.”

Similarly, Saida Diola wouldn’t mind receiving chocolates or flowers, or both.

But anything "made personally" by "someone" would make her very happy.

Jackie Rice was specific about her wish-gift: “Sulat-kamay lang— letter.”

With a dreamy smile she said, “Mas gusto ko ‘yon kasi na sinusulat kesa sa text. ‘Yon ‘yong nararamdaman mo, e, ‘yon talaga.

“Pero yung boyfriend ko, halos nagsusulat siya sa akin,” referring to her non-showbiz boyfriend of four years.

Yeng Constantino sticks to tradition—she still loves receiving flowers.

She even blushed a little when we asked the question.

“Pero mabibilang mo o masusukat mo ‘yong Valentine’s mo, just the thought na kasama mo ‘yong taong mahal mo, alam mo ‘yon?

“In love ka, in love siya sa ‘yo, handa kayong gawin ang lahat para sa isa’t isa, ibibigay niyo ang sarili niyo sa isa’t isa. ‘Yon na ‘yon, e, sapat na ‘yon.”

How about you, PEPsters, what gift would you like to receive this Valentine’s Day?
