Jodi Sta. Maria has been in show business since the ABS-CBN youth-oriented drama series Tabing Ilog (1999-2003).
In fact, she is known to have worn so many hats throughout her career, and this March, Preview shows a different side of her.
Clad in a black and white striped swimsuit inspired by runway designers, Jodi was both alluring and classy, and was styled in a way refreshing to everyone.
Editor-in-Chief Pauline Juan said in her editor’s note, “[Jodi is] a courageous, intelligent thespian, and we are so excited to have had the chance to work with her in our red-hot black and white graphic swimsuit story.”
Trading her short locks for a voluminous summer look inspired by Guy Laroche, hairstylist Jaime Sy took a notch up in transforming the actress into a sexy siren.
For her nude palette makeup, Krist Bansuelo gave Jodi a modern smokey look and neutral lips.
In her first-ever swimsuit feature, Jodi talks about her undeniable happiness with the phenomenal success of her daytime soap opera, Be Careful With My Heart, where she plays the ever-positive Maya.
“Siyempre sa umpisa, yung show ay mere entertainment lang. But we realized na hindi lang siya basta entertainment para sa mga kababayan natin, kundi source din siya ng inspiration and reminder para sa nakararami.
"Naging instrument lang kaming mga actors, our directors, production staff and crew.
“We work hand in hand para makapag-send out ng magandang mensahe.”
And true enough, the show has now been extended until mid-2013.
What makes the show a hit besides its feel-good vibe is the chemistry between Maya and Sir Chief, Jodi’s screen partner, Ricardo Lim.
When asked how they were able to exude such natural chemistry, the actress quickly pointed out that it was a result of long conversations with her leading man.
“We really talk about personal matters, hindi yung parang nasa taping lang… [and] it’s important that Richard and I believe in the characters kasi importante yun as actors.
“I think ‘yon yung isa sa mga dahilan kung bakit effective ‘yong onscreen partnership namin.”
Another thing that makes Jodi so believable and relatable to her audience is that she psychs herself to feel what her character should feel, summoning her personal experiences for inspiration.
“Sometimes, yun yung bala ko when it comes to acting.”
