In a recent sit-down chat with PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal), Rocco Nacino opens up and lets loose, revealing the highlights of his experience with the website, what the PEPsters mean to him, what gets him through a bad day, his man-crush, what he thinks of before going to sleep, why he chooses time and again to do controversial roles... and that's just for starters!
The StarStruck Second Prince winner was the last star to leave the PEP Hot 6 anniversary party last March 14, where he shared how PEP became part of his four years in showbiz.
"Nakakatuwa na they are always updated about me, and they want to be updated about me.
"It's just nice to feel that love na mayroon, and to be called a PEP baby. I'm honored to be one.
"Being recognized by PEP, okay na iyon, that's a highlight, such a high na 'di ko puwedeng ipagpalit," he said with a smile.
But, of course, when there's an upside, there's a downside, yet Rocco does not gloss over this or shrug it off.
He said that the low point would have to be "when the time came na there were issues about me being a user to my mga ka-love team, using my ka-love team, ganoon to rise up in the industry."
But those issues eventually died a natural death. "Okay na naman, nalagpasan ko naman."
PEPSTERS' COMMENTS HELP HIM GROW. Rocco said he places premium value on the PEPsters because "their comments, their opinions, they mean a lot to me, and it's one of those things that help me to get myself molded into a better actor.
"That's one of the critics that I use na to improve myself, not just my own criticism but opinions from other people, from the users."
Never afraid of a little drama— look at some of the shows he's been on: Yesterday's Bride, Makapiling Kang Muli, The Good Daughter) and unique movies (I Luv U Pare Ko; Madaling Araw, Mahabang Gabi; Biag ni Lam-ang; Ang Sayaw ng Dalawang Kaliwang Paa— Rocco has always had an interesting selection of roles, to say the least.
He remarked, "It's always been with the guidance of my managers, my parents. It took a lot for me to accept these kinds of roles. Kahit first movie, ganoong klase na role ko."
After consulting with producers, his managers, and his mom, Rocco felt at peace when it was decided he was ready to take on controversial roles.
Normally, actors in Philippine showbiz take the route of portraying off-the-beaten-track, gay, or unusual characters when they have proven something in their career, not when their careers are still on the rise.
"I'm ready to take chances in my career because it's about taking risks," the young actor explained.
Does he do it with his head doing the thinking for him or does he jump in right away?
"Head first or feet first, I'd say both. Taking risks and using my head to think about what I'm gonna do, so I just jump into it kasi I knew I was ready."
OF LEADING LADIES AND FINE ACTORS. Having worked with a bevy of beautiful Kapuso ladies, who does Rocco Nacino, a three-time Cosmo Hunk still wish would become his screen partner?
He quickly answered, "Just anyone... I would like to be the person na 'he could work with anyone.'
"I would like to be the person na versatile, whoever comes my way, whoever GMA thinks would fit with me in my next few projects, kahit sino!"
But if he were stranded on a deserted island, who would he want to be with him?
Giggling like a schoolboy, he replied, "Kate Beckinsale, Jennifer Aniston, Heart Evangelista, Anne Curtis, and my mom!"
What would the five ladies and himself be doing on the island?
Chuckling, Rocco revealed, "My mom would cook. I would do the hunting and then the four of us except my mom would have a good time... Depends on how you want to think about it!"
When it comes to actors he admires and looks up to, Rocco runs down a formidable list of who's who character- and award-winning actors.
He mentioned "Dennis Trillo, Tito Eddie Garcia, Raymond Bagatsing, Tito Pen Medina... so far siya iyong pinakamataas, siya iyong man-crush ko! I love how he acts. Yeah, those are the guys na gusto ko um-acting."
COMPLETE THE SENTENCE...
1. To get through a bad day, I should be... "seeing my family, getting to work out... If I'm having a bad day I have to work out, play the drums kasi doon ko nilalabas yung emotions ko..."
2. When I wake up in the morning... "I fart a lot!
"When I wake up in the morning, I get nervous, not nervous... I get agitated because of my work right now.
"Pagkagising ko, I would think na, 'Shocks ganoon... late na ako. Kasi I was thinking of my schedule ahead of time.
"So ayun, when I wake up nowadays, I'm always agitated."
3. Before I go to sleep at night... "I think of my career, about the success that I am having right now, and I make sure to thank God for that.
"I make sure to give a long thank-you speech to God for what I am experiencing in my life right now."
4. A perfect day for me is... "being able to work out at least two hours, see my friends, have dinner with my family, and if I had one, expect a text or call from a loved one. Very simple, wala naman kailangan malupit na mangyari araw-araw, just enjoy life, that's my motto!"
Rocco Nacino is in a good place, indeed, describing his state as, "I'm happy, driven, that's an adjective right? And focused."
And if there is only thing he could have or keep, what would it be?
"If I could only have one thing, it would be wings to fly," he replied enigmatically.
